Florida State Seminoles 2024 Season Preview

In the 2024 season, the Florida State Seminoles are set to face the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in their opening game on Saturday, August 24, 2024, in Dublin, Ireland.

Florida State finished the 2023 regular season with a 13-0 mark and ACC title but didn’t qualify for the College Football Playoff. Instead, they capped off the season by being throttled 63-3 vs. Georgia in the Orange Bowl.

Head coach Mike Norvell and the Seminoles will have to replace Jordan Travis, one of the top quarterbacks in program history. Florida State additionally lost its two best wide receivers (Keon Coleman and Johnny Wilson), No. 1 running back (Trey Benson), and main tight end target (Jaheim Bell).

However, Oregon State grad transfer DJ Uiagalelei was a strong quarterback pickup in the portal. The strong armed Uiagalelei will be a steadying presence under center.

SEC transfers Jalen Brown (LSU) and Malik Benson (Alabama) are key skill position additions as well.

The offensive line has plenty of veteran savvy, including offensive tackle Robert Scott Jr. and center Maurice Smith.

Florida State’s defense also has a lot of spots to replace but the potential is still there for a sound unit. Defensive back Shyheim Brown and defensive linemen Joshua Farmer, and Patrick Payton are some of the notable players to look out for.

Additionally, the Seminoles snagged some defensive help in the portal with pickups like defensive back Earl Little Jr. (Alabama), linebacker Marvin Jones Jr. (Georgia), and defensive lineman Sione Lolohea (Oregon State).

Florida State should be stout once again on special teams. All-American returner Jaylin Lucas joins from Indiana. Punter Alex Mastromanno and kicker Ryan Fitzgerald are each reliable.

Overall, the Seminoles are well-positioned in their quest for another ACC title and a spot in the newly expanded CFP.

Florida State Seminoles Point Spreads

For those unfamiliar, covering the spread is a reference to spread betting, the most popular type of bet. With a spread bet, a sportsbook sets the “line” of how many points they expect the Seminoles to win or lose by. Here’s an example:

  • Florida +6.5 (-110)
  • Florida State -6.5 (-110)

The underdog Florida in this game could cover the spread by winning the game outright or by losing by six or fewer points. If the Seminoles won by seven or more, Florida State bettors would win their bets.

Florida State Seminoles Over/Unders

Over/unders, also referred to as totals, are bets on the total scoring in a game by both teams combined. As an example, a sportsbook could set a 52.5 total for the Florida State vs. Florida game. If Florida State lost 33-20, over bettors would get paid because the teams scored 53 points. In the case of totals bets, which team wins or loses doesn't matter.

Florida State Seminoles Moneylines

If this is all too complicated, you can make it easy on yourself and bet Seminoles moneylines.

For a moneyline wager to win, you just need the Seminoles to win the game by any amount. To account for different likelihoods of either team winning the game, books adjust the payouts for either side. A +300 bet on Florida State as underdogs would return $30 in profit to a $10 bettor, while a bet against them at -300 means you'd have to risk $30 to profit $10.

Florida State Seminoles Props

Instead of betting on the team, how about betting on a running back? This is called a prop bet and is simply an over/under bet on a specific player's statistics for a game.

College football player prop bets can be sometimes hard to find, so make sure to locate a sportsbook that offers such markets.

Florida State Seminoles Futures

Want to bet on the entire Seminoles season instead of betting one game at a time? You can do that with futures bets.

Futures bets are exactly what they sound like: They're bets on a future result of the season for a team. You can bet on the total number of wins a team will have, the odds of the Seminoles to win the ACC , or individual players to win awards like the Heisman Trophy. These are pr iced like moneylines and can offer big payouts if poorly-regarded teams manage to surprise oddsmakers.
