Here's everything you need to know about the Jack Catterall vs. Regis Prograis odds for Saturday, October 25.
Losing this afternoon's boxing main event is going to be devastating for somebody.
Jack Catterall (29-1, 13 KOs) should've been undisputed super lightweight champion once, but he was robbed against Josh Taylor in February 2022 – robbed of an Upset of the Year type of victory.
Catterall has rolled to three straight decision wins, including a rematch win over Taylor in May.
Regis Prograis (29-2, 24 KOs) was once the arguable best in the world in this weight class. At 140 pounds, he's been world champion twice and memorably lost a debatable decision win to the above-mentioned Taylor in the finals of the World Boxing Super Series five autumns ago. Prograis won the WBC title three years later but is coming off back-to-back uninspiring performances heading into this fight. The most recent was a shutout loss to Devin Haney last December, where Prograis was dropped in Round 3 and lost all 12 rounds.
It's make-or-break time for both sides. Let's get into who likely wins and how in Saturday's main event on DAZN from Manchester, England.
Here's my Catterall vs. Prograis pick and prediction for Saturday afternoon.
Bryan Fonseca's Breakdown & Analysis
This is the last chance for both of these guys, but especially Prograis.
Catterall is an ascending super lightweight who is closer than he's been to a world title outside of the first Taylor fight. He's also 31 and is in his best form ever.
Prograis, on the other hand, is more complicated. He's 35 and hasn't had a good performance in two years. He beat Jose Zepeda for the WBC title in November 2022. In his first title defense, he fought Danielito Zorrilla – a replacement opponent for Liam Paro – in June 2023. He won a highly debatable hometown decision via a controversial split call. I had Prograis winning 114-113 thanks to a knockdown he scored in Round 3.
And then the Haney fight was several months later.
Comparatively, Catterall has strung together three one-sided victories, and he missed out on a fourth.
Prograis is an old-school boxer puncher. He has a style many would consider unconventional in modern boxing, but he's a southpaw who can finish with either hand and prefers to pressure his opponents on the inside while using subtle, herky-jerky movements to create angles.
Catterall is a classic southpaw boxer who is defensively responsible, will primarily look to counterpunch, and has a quick overhand left used to slow down his opponents.
Prograis is an effective body puncher, which he'll look to use against Catterall, who will enter with a two-inch reach advantage. Prograis has a negative reach – 67 inches despite being 5-foot-8 – compared to Catterall, who is 5-foot-7 with a 69-inch reach.
Catterall vs. Prograis Prediction & Pick
The pick is simple: It's Catterall by decision at -167. I'd play to -180ish.
Catterall is the better boxer in better form. If this were peak for peak, I'd take Prograis without a second though, possibly by stoppage, too. But he hasn't been that guy in two years, and he hasn't been in the ring for more than 10 months. Catterall is younger, more active and has looked more impressive over the last couple years. Plus, this is a hometown fight for Catterall.
If I were to back Prograis, I'd have to do it by KO/TKO between Rounds 7-12 at +950. Despite what I just said, if Prograis were to win, I think this is the mostly likely scenario, so I'd project this to have more of chance than the implied +950 would indicate. (All odds via FanDuel.)
Ultimately, though, it's Catterall by decision for me.
Enjoy the fight, and don't go broke!
The Pick: Jack Catterall by decision (-167 at BetRivers)
