A YouTube influencer is favored over one of the greatest boxers of all time in one of the most improbable fights in history.
Jake Paul opened as a -170 favorite at DraftKings over “Iron” Mike Tyson in a match that was officially sanctioned on Monday. The fight will take place at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas on July 20, and will be broadcast exclusively on Netflix.
This marks Tyson’s first professional fight in nearly two years. He last fought in 2020 against Roy Jones, Jr., but that was an exhibition match. The two-time heavyweight world champion is 50-6 all-time with 44 knockouts, but will be 58-years-old when he enters the ring.
Meanwhile, Paul is 27-years-old. This marks the largest age gap in a professional boxing match, easily surpassing Archie Moore (49) vs. Mike DiBiase (25) in 1963.
Paul is 9-1 with six knockouts in combat sports and has dominated in crossover boxing matches against the likes of UFC superstars Nate Diaz, Anderson Silva, Tyron Woodley and Ben Askren. He suffered his first loss last year against Tyson Fury, but has talked a big game since this fight was first announced. Paul has spoken glowingly about Tyson, but also had some choice words and had vowed to “end” him when they step into the ring.
“Mikey – Uncle Mike – I love you,” Paul recently said. “You’re looking amazing, but there can only be one winner and I’m sorry, but I’ve got to end you, brother.”
