A giant red flag is being raised regarding Ryan Garcia's win over Devin Haney almost two weeks ago.
Garcia tested positive for a PED, according to multiple reports. Garcia tested positive for Ostarine in a Voluntary Anti-Doping Association test he took prior to the fight.
According to WebMD, "People use Ostarine for athletic performance, involuntary weight loss due to illness, breast cancer, and many other conditions, but there is no good scientific evidence to support these uses." It is not approved by the FDA and is a banned substance by the US Anti-Doping Agency.
Garcia was a +600 underdog when he fought the undefeated Haney in a lightweight bout. Garcia reportedly bet $2 million on himself to win, netting $10 million.
"If you bet, BET ON YOURSELF," the Instagram post read. "On top of what we made. We eating good. About 50 million (probably more) in one night not too shabby."
SuperBook's John Murray says all of their bets will remain graded how they were at the end of the match, "We won't recognize overturned results for betting purposes."
Garcia now has 10 days to request his B-sample. Garcia also tested positive for 19-norandrosterone, according to ESPN's Mike Coppinger.
"It's the weirdest s**t ever," Garcia said on Instagram live after the news broke. "Supposedly they had it already, then they release it after I win? It makes no sense … If they had this information, they should've released this before the fight went down, because why would you let a cheater step into the ring, right? All of a sudden I win, and then you release it? Seems kind of fishy to me."
Haney, who was knocked down three times by Garcia during the fight, was able to retain his belt due to Garcia being three pounds overweight. Haney's dad spoke to Sports Illustrated's Chris Mannix about the situation, "You trying to hurt my baby. We played it fair," Devin Haney said. "We didn't do it like that… I came from the streets. You scared of Devin on a level playing field. I feel f***ed up over this."
