Top Casino Table Games 2024
As the U.S. gaming industry expands, new players continue to learn about the most popular casino games such as baccarat, blackjack, craps, roulette, and poker.
When visiting the Las Vegas Strip or downtown Atlantic City, you’ll likely encounter gaming floors with dozens of table games. Each game shows betting limits via a sign that is on or near the table. Games usually get grouped by low, medium, and high-limit tables.
Playing games at the top online casinos is even easier than at their retail counterparts. First-time players in legal states like Michigan, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia can access hundreds of table games and earn a welcome bonus like cash back, free spins or a deposit spin.
We’ll review some of the most popular casino table games for players of any skill level at brick-and-mortar locations and online casinos like BetMGM, DraftKings, and FanDuel.
Our Process of Selecting the Top Casino Table Games
Choosing from popular table games requires some knowledge and insight into how each game works. Before you sit at a blackjack table or make a wager at a roulette table, you should understand the available betting options, odds, and payouts.
For example, each table game has a house edge or built-in advantage for the casino. Players should be aware of the house edge before placing any wagers.
Top Casino Table Games
Here are the gaming industry's most popular table games:
Blackjack
Blackjack is often the most popular game at any casino besides slots. Players compare their own hand against a dealer’s hand using a traditional deck of cards. The house deals clockwise around the table, with two face-up cards for every player. The dealer, however, receives one face-up card and one face-down hole card.
Tens and face cards (Jacks, Queens, and Kings) count as ten. Aces count as either one or 11. Twos through nines retain their value.
To win at blackjack, you must reach a total point value of 21 without going over. If a player or dealer receives an Ace and a ten-value card for their first two cards, that is considered a natural blackjack. The result is a push or tie if the player and dealer both get blackjack.

Blackjack is an action-packed game utilizing options such as hit (draw another card), stand (keep your hand), double down (add another wager to receive one more card), and split (add another wager to form up to four total hands). Some tables require the dealer to hit on 17, while others stipulate that a dealer must stand on 17. Side bets like 21+3 and Lucky Ladies are often available, as well.
Blackjack usually offers one of the best return-to-player (RTP) averages of any table game, with a house edge of less than one percent. For an RTP of around 99.50%, players can implement a "basic strategy", which details how to play every possible hand via blackjack strategy charts.

Roulette
Roulette is an exciting game because of its easy-to-grasp table layout. Players wager on numbered pockets from 1 to 36, with additional options for a zero (0) and double zero (00). Betting options include inside bets (on the inside of the roulette table where the individual numbers are listed) and outside bets (on the outside where there are groupings of numbers and colors). This game is ideal because it can run with just one player at the table.
The objective of roulette is to correctly guess where the ball will land after the croupier spins the ball in the opposite direction of the wheel.
Inside bets include choosing one, two, three, four, and six numbers simultaneously, with lower odds of winning and higher payouts. Outside bets like low/high, red/black, and even/odd (which pay even money) are wagers on 18 numbers simultaneously, with better odds of winning and lower payouts.
European Roulette only comes with one green-colored zero pocket, which gives the game an overall house edge of 2.70% (97.30% RTP). With two green-colored pockets (0, 00), American Roulette offers a higher house edge of 5.26% (94.74% RTP).

Baccarat
Baccarat is an intriguing game that offers one of the best RTP averages on the casino floor (besides blackjack). There are three main betting options: player, banker, and tie. Depending on the baccarat game, the player and dealer receive two cards, delivered face up or down. Aces count as one, while tens and face cards count as zero points. Twos through nines keep their values.
The twist in baccarat comes from total point values over nine, which then subtract ten — or the first digit gets dropped. For example, a pair of eights becomes six (i.e., 8 + 8 = 16 - 10 = 6), and a 6 dealt with a 7 becomes three (i.e., 6 + 7 = 13 - 10 = 3).
Players and bankers may draw a third card depending on their total point values. Players draw on values of zero to five and stand on six or seven. An eight or a nine, forms a natural hand in baccarat. (You can check with the dealer or in-game settings for information about the third card rules for the banker.)
With a house edge of 1.24% (98.76% RTP), the player bet pays even money. Banker bets also pay even money. However, with a lower house edge of 1.06% (98.94% RTP), banker wagers require a 5% commission — except in No Commission Baccarat.
The tie wager offers a house edge of 14.36% (85.64% RTP) and pays 9:1 or 8:1. Side bets like Either Pair or Perfect Pair may also be available. Players can also follow scoreboards like Bead Road, Big Road, and Small Road, which depict previous outcomes.
Craps
Craps is one of the most complicated games at any casino, especially for beginners. The shooter throws a pair of dice, and there are dozens of bets to choose from, starting with the Come Out Roll. Wagers include a Pass/Don’t Pass Line, which allows bettors to gamble for or against the shooter.
If you wager on the Pass Line, you’ll win if the shooter rolls a sum of 7 or 11 on the Come Out Roll and lose if the sum of the dice is a 2, 3, or 12. Conversely, if you wager on the Don’t Pass Line, you’ll win if the shooter rolls a 2 or 3 and lose if it’s a 7 or 11. If you wager on the Don’t Pass Line and the shooter rolls a 12, the result is a push or tie.
Establishing a Point Number
A point gets established during the Come Out when the shooter rolls a 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10. The puck goes to the point number (ON), and the player must roll that number before a seven to win that round, including Pass Line wagers. Similar rules apply to the Come/Don’t Come Line, which become available after establishing a point number.
If you wager on the Come Line, you’ll win with a 7 or 11 and lose with a 2, 3, or 12. Any other result moves the wager to that point number. Don’t Come Line wagers win with a 2 or 3, tie with a 12, and lose with a 7 or 11. Any other result moves the wager to that point number.
Odds, Place, Buy, and Lay Bets
Additional wagers in craps with various payouts include Odds (Pass/Don’t Pass, Come/Don’t Come), Place, Buy, and Lay. Place and Buy bets are wagers for the shooter to roll that point number before a 7 (Buy bets require a 5% commission for true odds). Lay bets are wagers against the shooter rolling that point number before a seven (also with a 5% commission).
Check the rules on the craps table for more information on Field bets, Hard Ways, Any Seven, Any Craps, and other wagers.
Poker
Poker or carnival games include Caribbean Stud, Mississippi Stud, Pai Gow Poker, 3-Card Poker, and Ultimate Texas Hold’em. Rather than playing against other players at the table, poker games might use community cards or a dealer-versus-player format, with betting rounds for antes and additional wagers. (House edges and RTP averages in poker depending on the variant.)
As an example, Caribbean Stud (1.65% house edge / 98.35% RTP) requires an ante bet before you receive any cards. A player receives four face-up cards, while the dealer gets one face-up card and three face-down cards. The player can decide whether to bet or fold, needing at least a pair or high card for an even-money payout against a dealer’s Ace or King (qualifying hand).
If your ante was $10, you’d need to risk a $20 bet in order to see the dealer’s remaining three cards.
While games like baccarat and blackjack might use six to eight standard 52-card decks (shuffled after each hand or once there are no more cards left in the “shoe”), poker often uses only one deck, which may lower the odds for the casino.

Find The Games With The Best Odds
While we usually recommend players stick to games that offer the best odds, it’s essential to understand that casino games are a form of entertainment. The house edge ensures the casino earns a profit for each game. So, players should recognize the randomness of events associated with gambling at casinos to help avoid the gambler's fallacy and practice effective bankroll management.
Average Casino Table Game Odds:
Blackjack: 0.50% - 2% house edge (98% - 99.50% RTP)
Baccarat: 1.06% - 1.24% house edge (98.76% - 98.94% RTP)
Craps: 0.27% house edge (99.73% RTP)
Roulette: American Roulette - 5.26% house edge (94.74% RTP); European Roulette - 2.70% house edge (97.30% RTP)
Three Card Poker: 2.01% house edge (97.99% RTP)

The Garden State was one of the first states to regulate iGaming in 2013. There are about 30 online casinos in New Jersey.

West Virginia
Like Michigan, West Virginia online casinos have been legal in West Virginia for a few years. Up to 15 iGaming options are available in the Mountain State.
Connecticut
While Connecticut has one of the more restrictive iGaming markets, two Connecticut online casino options (DraftKings and FanDuel) are available.

Etiquette Basics for Casino Table Games
Casinos require proper etiquette for players once they enter the premises. We’ll examine the different rules associated with table games to give you a better understanding of the basics.
Blackjack Etiquette
Some blackjack rules restrict touching your cards (you’re only allowed to touch your chips). Be mindful of the dealer and casino staff by being considerate and respectful.
Poker Etiquette
Poker requires players to make quick decisions about how they want to play their hands. Players should be aware of what’s happening at the table and refrain from talking about the hand currently in play unless they've made a bet.
Roulette Etiquette
Roulette requires players to buy colored chips directly from the dealer at the table. Instead of chip denominations ($1, $10, $100, etc.), each player gets assigned a different color to help the dealer know which bets belong to which player.
Once the dealer signals “no more bets,” players must wait until the wheel stops; the dealer removes all the lost bets and pays out the winners before a new round can begin. You're not supposed to touch anyone else’s chips, and you must exchange your color-denominated chips before you leave the table.
Craps Etiquette
Players should be respectful of the shooter, which might mean betting with them instead of against them. (For example, you probably won’t be making friends with anyone at the table if you bet against the shooter.) If you’re the shooter, stay focused on the game and keep your hands to yourself.
Otherwise, be respectful when placing your bets, and remember to drink responsibly. We recommend this as proper etiquette for any person at the casino.
Hand Signals in Casino Game Play
Casinos often require basic hand signals for players at table games. Dealers, managers, and pit bosses may need to refer to those hand signals if there are discrepancies between players and staff by checking the recorded video, a routine safety and security measure at casinos.
Here are some hand signals that you should be aware of.
Hit: Tap the table with your hand or fingers to request another card.
Bet: You can announce a bet or place the chips directly before you.
Stand: Wave your hand over your cards to indicate that you don't want another one.
Double/Split: Place a second and equal wager next to your initial bet. For a double-down request, you can show the dealer one finger (index finger) to indicate that you'd like one more card. To split your hand, you can place two fingers (index and middle fingers) behind your cards to show that you'd like to form two hands. Some casinos may allow you to separate a pair manually for a split. Check with the dealer to be sure.
What is Allowed at the Casino Table?
A retail casino might list proper etiquette directly on its website to let players know what’s expected of them whenever they visit. These policies help protect players and staff to ensure a safe and fun gaming environment.
Here are a few general guidelines for how to behave at a casino:
-
Players should have a general understanding of how a game works before placing any bets.
-
Keep your opinions to yourself.
-
Don’t take too long when deciding how to play your hand.
-
Be friendly and polite to casino staff and other players.
-
Dress appropriately, especially for nights and weekends.
-
Avoid using your phone at the table.
-
Tip your dealers, bartenders, and wait staff a few dollars for each game and drink.
Why Play Table Games at Casinos?
Entering a casino floor can be a thrilling experience, as some retail locations offer hundreds of options. While slots at land-based casinos usually offer RTPs that range from 80% to the low 90s, online casinos provide better RTPs, hovering around 95% to 96%.
Since online casinos don’t need to pay as much for labor and maintenance costs, the same beneficial RTPs apply to virtual tables for baccarat, blackjack, craps, roulette, and poker. However, human dealers may offer better odds for players since there are no computer-based random number generators (RNGs).
We recommend practicing blackjack and other games at online casinos to improve your skills for better experiences in person.
Remember to have fun and take breaks whenever necessary. Always practice responsible gambling and learn about loyalty programs to see if they might benefit your play online and at brick-and-mortar casino locations.
