Round robins may be foreign to many bettors, but they're right in your face every time you go to place a bet at DraftKings or FanDuel. So what are they, and how do you bet them?

A round robin is a bet type that combines a larger list of bets into a series of smaller parlays. It's just an easy way to create a bunch of parlays all at once. It gets its name from a round robin tournament, where each team plays every other team.

So why would you bet a round robin? I'd say the most common use case is when you're betting a bunch of underdogs or bets at plus-money, and you want some of the parlay upside without needing to hit every leg. However, they can get expensive, since in reality, all you're doing is betting a bunch of different parlays all at once.

How to Bet a Round Robin at FanDuel

To create a round robin at FanDuel, just add the bets you want to your slip like normal, and then click "Round Robin" in the bet slip.

Another menu will pop up with your round robin options. You'll see a bunch of different options at the bottom, depending on how many teams you added.

  • "By 2" means you're betting parlays with that many teams. So a bunch of 2-leg parlays.
  • "x6 wagers" means there are six possible combinations, so you'll be betting six total parlays.
  • The "wager" amount is your wager per combination — so if I enter $5 in the 2's x 6 box, I'll be betting six parlays for $30 total.
  • The winnings are what you'd win if all the combinations hit, though the nature of a round robin is that some can lose and other combinations can still win.
  • The odds are an aggregate of all the possible winning combinations. So in the 2x6 example, you're betting $30 and you can win a max of $305.95, which equates to +1019.

So in this example, I'd be betting 11 total parlays for $55 total.

  1. GiantsBears
  2. Giants-Falcons
  3. Giants-Eagles
  4. Bears-Falcons
  5. Bears-Eagles
  6. Falcons-Eagles
  7. Giants-Bears-Falcons
  8. Giants-Bears-Eagles
  9. Giants-Falcons-Eagles
  10. Bears-Falcons-Eagles
  11. Giants-Bears-Falcons-Eagles

How to Bet a Round Robin at DraftKings

DraftKings does a good job visualizing how round robins work and your payouts right in the bet slip.

Just add the teams to your bet slip like normal, and you'll see a little drop down at the bottom of the bet slip to expand your options.

Same as FanDuel, you'll see a bunch of numbers:

  • "2 Pick Round Robin" will create a bunch of 2-leg parlays
  • "6 bets" will be the total number of parlays created (because we picked four teams)
  • "x $5.00" is the wager amount per parlay, so for the 2-leg parlays, I'm betting $30 total
  • The "Payout" is the total winnings if all combinations hit

So again, like at FanDuel, you'd be betting 11 total parlays if you do all combinations, including the 4-legger:

  1. Memphis-OK State
  2. Memphis-Minnesota
  3. Memphis-Oregon State
  4. OK State-Minnesota
  5. OK State-Oregon State
  6. Minnesota-Oregon State
  7. Memphis-OK State-Minn
  8. Memphis-OK State-OR State
  9. Memphis-Minn-OR State
  10. OK State-Minn-OR State
  11. Memphis-Minn-OK State-OR State
