What a day already for the San Francisco 49ers' running backs.
On Sunday morning, news broke that rookie Trey Sermon would be inactive for today's game against the Detroit Lions, leaving Raheem Mostert in line for a massive workload.
However, Mostert suffered a knee injury on San Francisco's second offensive drive of the game and is now questionable to return.
With Mostert potentially out for the game and Sermon inactive, that leaves two healthy running backs for the 49ers today: Elijah Mitchell and JaMycal Hasty.
Mitchell, who has taken over the lion's share of running back duties with Mostert sidelined, has performed admirably thus far, including a 38-yard touchdown run early in the second quarter.
With just over six minutes left in the second quarter, Mitchell has amassed 44 yards and one touchdown on three carriers.
Hasty has yet to touch the football.
The 49ers closed as 9.5-point favorites against the Lions for today's NFL Week 1 game — the largest favorite of the week's season-opening games.
