DraftKings experienced severe outages on Monday night that left some users — a handful of them with tens or even hundreds of thousands of dollars in their accounts — to believe that their accounts had been wiped out to $0.
Throughout the night, users with preexisting balances found themselves unable to place bets because of insufficient funds despite no changes to their balance.
The amount under users' "financial center" tab would occasionally indicate the correct dollar value before vacillating between $0 and the true amount.
When the wallet was registered at $0 by the interface, no bets could be placed.
The issue appeared to have largely sorted itself after about 30 minutes, at roughly 10:30 p.m. ET.
A DraftKings spokesperson told the Action Network he was investigating the matter. The sportsbook didn't respond to inquiries as to why the glitches took place and what the sportsbook may implement to alleviate future issues.
The glitch occurred on the day that DraftKings — and seven others — made their long-awaited launch in North Carolina. The state represents perhaps the last new jurisdiction to launch in America this calendar year and a prime opportunity to acquire new customers.
Hours ahead of the ACC Tournament, this outage wasn't unique to North Carolina and wasn't isolated into one specific geographic region, according to sources.
