The Massachusetts Gaming Commission ruled in a 3-2 decision on Thursday to void tickets placed on “erroneous” odds that DraftKings posted for a game between the Los Angeles Lakers vs. Denver Nuggets on Oct. 24.
At the same time, the state regulators also ruled that DraftKings must provide either cash or bonus bet compensation to the users who bet on the mistakenly listed totals. They are the seventeenth state to void bets on that specific marketplace.
On Oct 24, Sportcast – a Same Game Parlay vendor no longer employed by DraftKings – mistakenly listed LeBron James’ first quarter props as full-game props. Bettors were able to bet on a total of 8.5 points and 2.5 rebounds for a full 48 minutes. He finished with 21 points and five boards.
DraftKings posted the accidental listing hours before tip-off for only 13 minutes. Nonetheless, it was up long enough for 138 patrons to place bets accounting for a handle of $4,182.36 with a total liability of $575,436.
While Massachusetts ruled in the sportsbooks' favor, the states of New Jersey and Connecticut denied DraftKings’ request to void the tickets. Bettors in those states will earn the full winnings on their wagers.
New Jersey announced the decision the night before Massachusetts voted. DraftKings previously paid out $151,000 to patrons in Connecticut after the state denied their request to void tickets.
