  • After shooting 3-under par in Round 1, Brooks Koepka is the new favorite to win the 2019 British Open.
  • Below are the updated odds to win the Claret Jug heading into Friday's Round 2.

Round 1 of the 2019 British Open is in the books and this year's run for the Claret Jug is off to an interesting start.

The story from the opening round was Rory McIlroy's capitulation, as the Northern Irishman shot 8-over par in front of his hometown crowd. McIlroy will need to have his skates on tomorrow if he wants to play into the weekend.

Tiger Woods will also need to put up a score on Friday to earn the right to play past the cut. Tiger walked off the course 7-over par, good enough for a share of 144th place.

Both McIlroy and Woods will need a miracle to just contend at Portrush and can be had at odds of 250-1 and 500-1, respectively.

On the other end of the table is Brooks Koepka. The world's No. 1 player is the new betting favorite at Portrush after he shot 3-under par and finished Thursday tied for third place with over a dozen other golfers. Jon Rahm, who is tied with Koepka at 3-under, is the current second choice at 6-1.

J.B. Holmes, who was 200-1 to be the first-round leader, posted the best score on Thursday and is currently 30-1 to win the Claret Jug.

Oddsmakers will certainly be rooting against Koepka as he ended up attracting the most money at the Westgate.
