There are no cuts and no room for error for many this week at the 2022 BMW Championship.
The final 70 PGA TOUR players standing will be at Wilmington Country Club in Delaware this week for the BMW Championship, with the top 30 advancing to the hugely profitable Tour Championship. Last year, all 30 of those players made at least $395,000.
The playoff events obviously have a bigger impact on the FedEx Cup than the usual PGA TOUR event. Normal tournaments award 500 points to the winner, and majors see 600 go to first place. This week, 2,000 points are awarded to the winner.
Scottie Scheffler was the leader in the FedEx Cup standings for 23 weeks, but XXX winning the St. Jude Championship put them in first place as the TOUR heads to Delaware. Scheffler's lead was so great, though, that he remains in second place despite a missed cut.
Despite his missed cut at the FedEx St. Jude, Rory McIlroy remains atop the odds board entering this round of the playoffs.
Course Preview
Wilmington Country Club measures 7,534 yards as a par 71.
This week, players should expect to be greeted by very large greens, which means approach play will be hugely important. Hitting the green will be less of a problem for players, but getting close will be what separates them.
Past Winners
Six of the last seven BMW Championships have had a winning score of 20-under par or better. Last year, Patrick Cantlay won a fantastic playoff over Bryson DeChambeau after both players finished the tournament at 27-under.
That win gave Cantlay the necessary boost to win the FedEx Cup. Cantlay entered the Tour Championship on top of the standings, which gave him a huge edge with the staggered scoring at the season finale.
Rahm won this event in 2020 when it was in Olympia Fields in Illinois. Justin Thomas and Rory McIlroy also have wins at the BMW in their careers.
