The PGA Tour has migrated to the East Coast after a two-month stretch out west for the 2022 Honda Classic at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
After one of the best fields of the season so far took Riviera last week, most of the top players have opted to take this week off. There isn't a single player in the world’s top 10 in the field this week.
Louis Oosthuizen, Sungjae Im, Brooks Koepka, Billy Horschel and Daniel Berger are the only OWGR top-25 players in the Honda Classic field.
The public is backing Koepka this week at +2000 odds with 10.8% of the total tickets and 15.4% of the handle is on the Florida native. That is the biggest liability of the week at BetMGM.
The other big liability is on another Florida guy, Horschel. The Florida alum is getting 5.7% of the tickets and 7.0% of the handle this week at +2000 on BetMGM.
If there's a long-ish shot the public likes this week, it's Mito Pereira. After watching his fellow countryman Joaquin Niemann win last week, it could be time for the Chilean to breakout on tour. Pereira is currently +4000 and getting 3.3% of the tickets and 4.2% of the money on BetMGM.
Two players making their 2022 United States debut, Tommy Fleetwood and Shane Lowry, have seen their odds drop this week. Fleetwood opened at +2000 and is now +2500 while Lowry opened at +2500 and is now +3000 on BetMGM.
Fleetwood finished third in this event in 2020 and fourth in 2018. He has still looking for his first stateside victory.
Some bettors are predicting a Matt Jones repeat. The 2021 Honda Classic winner has moved from +5000 to +4000 on BetMGM. He's getting 1.3% of the public bets and 5.4% of the total handle.
The other most popular bets for the week are also some of the top favorites in Im, Berger and Oosthuizen.
