The 2022-2023 PGA TOUR season continues this Thursday with the second tournament of the season as the Sanderson Farms Championship returns to the Country Club of Jackson in Jackson, Mississippi.
2021 Sanderson Farms Championship winner Sam Burns will look to defend his title from last season after playing on the winning United States team in the Presidents Cup this past weekend. His teammate on the United States team, Max Homa, successfully defended his 2021 win at the Fortinet Championship to start the new PGA TOUR season after a dramatic 72nd-hole come-from-behind victory.
Course Preview
Country Club of Jackson measures 7,461 yards as a par 72.
This week, players should expect to be greeted by fast bermudagrass greens. With smaller Donald Ross greens, there will be a premium on strong approach play. The Country Club of Jackson also has wide fairways, so bombers off the tee should have an advantage built into this long course with four par fives.
Past Winners
The winner of this tournament will need to go low as the winner has shot at least 18-under par in each of the last six tournaments here. Last year, Burns shot 22-under to win by a stroke over Cameron Young and Nick Watney.
Burns won in his first start of the 2021 season, and this victory kick started his best year on TOUR yet. He would go on to win two more times at the Valspar Championship and the Charles Schwab Challenge.
In addition to Burns, other past champions at the Sanderson Farms in the field this week include Sebastian Munoz (2020 winner), Ryan Armour (2018), Cody Gribble (2017), Peter Malnati (2016) and Nick Taylor (2015).
