In his first tournament since winning the U.S. Open, big money is coming in on Matt Fitzpatrick in the 2022 Genesis Scottish Open.
Fitzpatrick trails only four players on the oddsboard at BetMGM, but no one has seen more money of support in the outright market.
At +2000, Fitzpatrick leads the way in handle, with 11% of all dollars wagered on the U.S. Open winner. No other player is in double-digits.
While the U.S. Open was his first on the PGA TOUR, Fitzpatrick owns eight professional wins on the European Tour. Playing — and succeeding — overseas is familiar territory. He's behind only Jon Rahm (+1200), Justin Thomas (+1400), Scottie Scheffler (+1400) and Xander Schauffele (+1800) on the oddsboard.
All the action makes him the sportsbook's second-biggest liability.
The top liability belongs to the most popular player this week in terms of bets. Will Zalatoris, who finished runner-up to Fitzpatrick at the U.S. Open, is once again getting the attention of bettors. After opening at +3000, Zalatoris is down to +2500 as he searches for his first win on the PGA TOUR.
Zalatoris tops Scheffler and Cameron Smith for most-bet golfers. Smith (+2800) is third on the liability list.
In the past, the Scottish Open was a European Tour event with many players using it as a tune-up for the Open Championship. Min Woo Lee won the event in 2021 in a playoff over Fitzpatrick and Thomas Detry. Aaron Rai beat Tommy Fleetwood in a playoff in '20. The tournament also went to a playoff in '19 when Bernd Wiesberger beat Benjamin Hebert.
