If there’s a week to find a longshot down the board to win, this week might be due to be the one. The PGA TOUR has had eight straight full-field events with a winner who started the tournament with odds of +4000 or shorter.
Where have all the longshots gone? Closing odds of the last 11 PGA Tour event winners.

The books are also split on whom to consider the favorite this weekend at the Wyndham Championship. DraftKings pegs Shane Lowry and Will Zalatoris as co-favorites at +1200. FanDuel and BetMGM prefer Sungjae Im. Other books, like Parx and BetRivers, are simply tossing their hands up and lumping a group of three or four golfers at the top.
All of those potential favorites stand as alternatives to Webb Simpson, who loves this event so much he named one of his children Wyndham. His reasoning tracks – he’s played the event 13 times with a win, 8 finishes of T8 or better, and only one missed cut (in his first start here back in 2009).
But without the presence of the top players in the world among the favorites, there are plenty of names to fall in love with at a much higher payout. With critical spots in the FedExCup Playoffs on the line, everyone has something to play for in Greensboro this weekend.
Mark Hubbard +7000 (DraftKings)
While many of the top players on the PGA TOUR built their schedules to travel to Europe for the Scottish Open and The Open Championship, those with TOUR cards but lesser status stayed stateside to battle for FedExCup points in the John Deere Classic and two opposite field events.
During that stretch of July, Mark Hubbard came to life, finishing T13 at the John Deere, solo third at the Barbasol Championship, and solo fourth at the Barracuda Championship.
While he missed he cut last week at the Rocket Mortgage, at least he had an ace on the card:

Hubbard is clearly playing some of the best golf of his career and should play well at Sedgefield Country Club. He’s made three straight cuts here, including top-25 finishes in 2017 and 2020.
Callum Tarren +10000 (DraftKings)
Ever since his name found the top of the leaderboard at the US Open, even if it was a brief dalliance at the top, Tarren has looked like a newfound man. In his last five starts, he has two top 10s and four top 25s.
This will mark his first trip to Greensboro, but there’s no reason to believe his game won’t translate to Sedgefield. As long as Tarren is accurate off the tee, he’ll have a chance to make birdies and post another high finish this week.
Harris English +13000 (DraftKings)
It was not long ago that Harris English was ranked among the 20 best players in the world and contributing to a US Ryder Cup win. Since then, he’s been dogged by a hip injury that he had surgery to repair.
His climb back to form has not been super smooth. He doesn’t have a top ten on TOUR this season, but the Wyndham Championship could be a good place for him to find his way.
In seven appearances here, English is yet to miss the cut and has three finishes of T23 or better. Eventually, his game is going to click back into place. It's better to speculate on his chances to do so at this number than to wait for him to return to the list of favorites each week.
Rory Sabbatini +15000 (DraftKings)
Behind Simpson, there’s a laundry list of players who feel comfortable at this event and this course. Rory Sabbatini is one of the prominent names on that list.
The Slovakian has made seven starts in Greensboro, posting five made cuts and four top-10 finishes. His play elsewhere on TOUR in recent months (and let’s be honest, recent years) leaves something to be desired, yet he finds a way to rise up a leaderboard every so often. If there’s a course where he’s likely to do so based on his past history, it’s this one. He’s worth a dice roll at this price.
