The PGA Tour's second full-field event of the year is the 2023 American Express, which will be hosted by a trio of courses in La Quinta, California.

All players will play three courses over the first three days while playing in a pro-am before a 54-hole cut. Pete Dye's PGA West Stadium Course will host one of the first three rounds and the final round for all players.

Last year, Hudson Swafford shot a final-round 64 to come from three shots behind and win by two at 23-under. It was his third win on the PGA TOUR and his second at The American Express after winning his first tournament at the 2017 American Express.

Swafford has since fled the PGA TOUR for LIV Golf, but this year's American Express field is littered with elite players as 10 of the top 20 players in the Official World Golf Rankings will tee it up this week in the desert.

Jon Rahm, who won this event in 2018 for his second career PGA TOUR win, is the betting favorite this week at +650 at bet365. After winning two weeks ago at the Sentry Tournament of Champions, Rahm has now won three of his last five starts worldwide and has been beaten by a combined 11 players over that span.

Masters champion Scottie Scheffler is second on bet365's odds board at +1000 this week. Dating back to the BMW Championship, the former Texas Longhorn has six top 10s in his last seven starts.

Patrick Cantlay enters with the third-shortest odds at +1100 in just his third start since the TOUR Championship. The former UCLA Bruin has three consecutive top-nine finishes at The American Express.

Tony Finau is the last player with odds shorter than +2000 this week as he rides into the desert at +1400 at bet365. Big Tone has won three of his last nine starts on the PGA TOUR after some major progress with his putting over the last year.

Xander Schauffele is set to play this week after withdrawing from the Sentry Tournament of Champions two weeks ago due to injury. His odds opened at +2000.

With the PGA TOUR back on the mainland after starting 2023 in Hawaii, there will now be four streams on PGA TOUR LIVE instead of just one each day, which means much more content for bettors to consume and utilize.

Course Preview

The field will play at three courses over the first 54 holes, PGA West Stadium Course, PGA West Nicklaus Tournament Course and La Quinta Country Club, with the final round also hosted by PGA West Stadium Course.

All three courses have a par of 72, with the Stadium Course being the longest at 7,187 yards.

Like Pete Dye's design at his first Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass, his final three holes at PGA West Stadium Course feature a risk-reward par-five, an island-green par-three and a water-lined par-four as his finishing stretch. He described these three holes as "maybe the most difficult finishing holes I've ever built."
