The 2023 Waste Management Phoenix Open is the biggest golf event of the year so far.
For some, primarily college-aged males living in Arizona, it is the biggest golf event of the year. But even the professionals get fired up to play the Stadium Course at TPC Scottsdale.
With 19 of the 20 best players in the OWGR in the field, this tournament is going to feel as close to a major as it gets on the PGA Tour.
Jon Rahm, Rory McIlroy, Justin Thomas, Collin Morikawa and Max Homa are just a few of the notable players in the field this week.
The betting public has keyed in on two golfers, in particular, this week. Xander Schauffele and Morikawa are both massive liabilities at BetMGM.
Schauffele is getting the most tickets and money of any player in the tournament. He is getting 7.2% of the tickets and accounts for 11.9% of the handle. Schauffele is currently +1600 to win the tournament at BetMGM.
Morikawa isn't far behind him. He is getting 7% of the bets and accounts for 10.7% of the handle. Morikawa's odds to win the tournament have shortened from +2200 at the start of the week to +2000 at BetMGM as of writing.
Tom Kim is another notable name to keep an eye on. The Korean rising star is the third-biggest liability for BetMGM this week. Bets on Kim account for 6.3% of tickets and 7.3% of the money wagered.
Justin Thomas' odds have fallen from +2200 at the start of the week to +1800 currently. He's getting 6.6% of the tickets and accounts for 8.7% of the handle.
Rahm has also gotten some action at BetMGM, currently accounting for 7% of the handle.
There aren't many longshots getting significant action at BetMGM this week. One longshot to keep an eye on is Keith Mitchell (+6600). After a successful week last week at Pebble Beach, he's getting 1.1% of the bets and 3.8% of the money.
