Men's golf's major championship season has concluded following Xander Schauffele's win at The Open Championship, and the PGA Tour now heads to the 2024 3M Open before next week's Olympics.
This week's 3M Open is one of two PGA Tour tournaments remaining before the FedExCup Playoffs, and it is one of the four final opportunities for One & Done bettors to move up in their pools.
This week we head to Blaine, Minnesota for the 3M Open at TPC Twin Cities. Since the golf course is longer than most of the TPC courses, and some of the winners include very long drivers of the golf ball, the general consensus is that you need to be a bomber to contend.
Seeing Matthew Wolff, Bryson DeChambeau, Cameron Champ and Tony Finau on top of past leaderboards here will surely emphasize Driving Distance, but there are multiple routes for success at TPC Twin Cities.
The most important key to success is positioning yourself in the fairway to set up a clean iron shot into each green. No matter if golfers have a five iron or an eight iron into a green, they can hit the ball close or make a putt for birdie.
Golfers who can spike with their iron play and approach play are the best targets at TPC Twin Cities this week. Obviously, long and straight is elite at any golf course, but it is not a requirement this week with water in play on 15 of 18 holes.
I will be taking a look at fewer bombers than the rest of your pool, and I have a few contrarian 2024 3M Open One & Done Picks to help you separate from your pool below.
2024 3M Open One & Done Picks (OAD)
Sam Burns +1800
We are yet to speak about Sam Burns this season in this One & Done column, but I have been gearing up to use him here since January.
Although it ended up being a less than stellar result after he catapulted out of contention in the final round, Burns had a great week at Royal Troon in The Open. He posted his best major result a few weeks ago at the U.S. Open at Pinehurst No. 2 and firmly planted himself into the mix at Royal Troon.
That is significant growth for Burns, and he should have gained some confidence because he had never shown anything like that in a major before.
Burns is a golfer who wins annually, and it may just be his time this week. I love how well he has been driving the golf ball as he is seventh on the PGA Tour in Total Driving. Once he is in the fairway, he can spike on approach or with the putter as much as anyone.
Burns is ready to peak in a weaker field, and he is a great selection at the top of the board as your 3M Open One & Done pick.
Ben Silverman +8000
Ben Silverman got off to a great start at the Barracuda Championship after holding the first-round lead but went backward very quickly after that.
Nonetheless, Silverman is on a great run of results which has been driven by solid approach play and putting, and that recipe also will lead to success around TPC Twin Cities.
The Canadian is very motivated to break through this season and has the build to make it work here. He will not be at massive ownership and gives you an under-the-radar ceiling to finish in the top 10.
Alejandro Tosti 250-1
With Alejandro Tosti, I am never worried about the form. Anytime you get him on a driver-heavy golf course, his baseline rises. Tosti is the ultimate driver-putter golfer and has some upside to pop on approach as well.
Tosti excelled at another driver-heavy golf course when he tied for second at Memorial Park in the Houston Open. He knows how to get in the mix in easier fields as he had a great Korn Ferry Tour season in 2023 which included a win at the Pinnacle Bank Championship by three shots.
He is an extremely volatile golfer with the necessary upside to roll the dice this week if you need to make up ground in your One & Done pool.
