Round two of the FedExCup Playoffs is here, and we are in for a treat as examine who to target for you BMW Championship OAD & one-and-done picks.
The PGA Tour has done a great job with the BMW Championship. I feel like it is the only event that they're willing to take a shot at an outlandish golf course. A change from the norm is a great thing, and we should all be very excited to see Castle Pines this week. I mean, it is quite literally labeled "The Longest Course in PGA Tour History." How can that not excite the everyday golf fan?
When you hear this, it may lead you to believe that you need distance to rise to the top this week. Personally, I disagree. Clearly, distance is never a bad thing, but I do not believe it is a must-have skill that you rank inside the top 50 in driving distance to do well this week. Let's not forget that this event will be played at altitude, which means every player in the field will have an added distance boost this week.
As the public keys in on the big hitters, we'll key in on great approach players to get different and rise to the top in the OAD world.
Collin Morikawa +1500
This is the week for Morikawa!
I was flirting with him last week at the St. Jude for the outright card but was waiting to see how popular of a pick he would be. It turns out that Morikawa was extremely popular and let everyone down.
I firmly believe that Morikawa will be overlooked this week due to the "distance" narrative. When you take a look at the courses in which Morikawa has played well, they are all big-boy tracks. You would be shocked to see that Morikawa has played better on the longer golf courses than he has played the shorter positional ones that you'd think his game was made for.
This is a great spot to use Morikawa if you can. You'll surely be one of the only ones with him remaining and, in my opinion, he really has the ability to pop on this course.
Shane Lowry +6000
It has been an odd couple of weeks for Lowry, but I really like how this golf course sets up for him.
Lowry's game is built around strong approach play, which will be the most important stat in relation to success this week. He's a streaky putter but at what his likely ownership will be and his odds, he can treat you well in your pool.
My favorite comp for this week is Valhalla. Lowry played extremely well that week and had a chance to win on Sunday.
If you have the Irishman available, don't be shy to run him out.
Taylor Pendrith +7000
Pendrith has been playing some amazing golf in 2024, and I don't believe he's done.
More than just the playoff, Pendrith has his goals set on making the Presidents Cup team. That can be done with a great week in Colorado.
When you take a look at Pendrith's Korn Ferry Tour history, he played in the Colorado Championship back in 2020 and finished T3. That was at a different venue, but he proved to be able to play solid golf in these conditions.
Pendrith is a PGA Tour winner this season and has been playing extremely solid golf of late. Two of his previous three finishes were T5s, and he popped for two rounds at TPC Southwind.
