We will dive into my Tour Championship statistical breakdown soon, but here are the 1-30 standings for each of the four main statistical categories through the opening two rounds of the event.
Strokes Gained: Off-The-Tee
Strokes Gained: Approach
Strokes Gained: Around-The-Green
Strokes Gained: Putting
Players Inside the Top 15 for Off-The-Tee + Approach
We'd see this list stretched down to only Scottie Scheffler if using top 10 totals for each.
Baseline Putt + Around The Green Score
This category aims to merge actual ball-striking statistics with baseline short-game totals.
This can highlight the players who are playing the best with their predictable numbers and are due for positive regression with the more volatile portions of their game.
Biggest Underachievers tn the Leaderboard
Note: I only included players who should be inside the top half of the field.
Those nine players stretch between -0.04 and -5.50 shots off from where they should be on the leaderboard when taking into account their baseline short-game stats.
Biggest Overachievers on the Leaderboard
Note: Players had to be outside the top 10 of my "Projected Baseline Putt + ATG Rank." I didn't want to include quality performers on this list.
It feels like we have found a way to fade the biggest overachievers on this list every week for over two months.
Leaderboard without Starting Strokes
There were questions about how East Lake would play after reconstructions were done to the venue.
We will see how the final two days fare before making concrete decisions on what has transpired, but the removal of some of the rough and positioning for easier scoring has turned East Lake into a glorified version of what we were getting in the past, just with a more straightforward nature to produce a score.
Doubling current totals wouldn't be a suggested route for projecting how this event will finish, but I did want to show the final scores for the field in the past six seasons (including this one).
We had already started to see a slight increase near the top over the past few seasons, but whatever bite this course had previously seems to be very far removed.
