The 28-year old matched Justin Thomas for most top 10s on tour this year with nine, including six in his last eight starts.
Many, including me, figured this would be the year for Fowler to breakthrough and become a major champion. That didn't happen however despite close calls at the U.S. Open and PGA Championship.
That consistency however has him in fifth place in the FedEx Cup standings and I'm backing him to win the championship and $10 million payday at 8/1.
Fowler enters the playoffs fourth in the betting odds behind Hideki Matsuyama (+450), Jordan Spieth (5/1) and Dustin Johnson (6/1). He'll have work to do to catch up to those stars, but as long as he stays in the top five, he controls his destiny at the Tour Championship.
I'm also firing on a couple longer shots with Patrick Reed and Charley Hoffman at 50/1.
Reed has been trending in the right direction for the last couple months and is coming off his best major finish two weeks ago at the PGA. He tends to raise his game for bigger events.

Reed will have to play well early in the playoffs. After a slow start to his season, he enters 38th in the standings and will be looking for a good result this week to jump into the top 30.
Hoffman hasn't got a victory this year, but has been playing some of the best golf of his career, making 12 straight cuts and posting three top 3 finishes in that span. Hoffman enters the playoffs in 11th place, the highest of any player without a win this year.
FedEx Cup plays
Fowler 8/1 (2)
Reed 50/1 (.25)
Hoffman 50/1 (.25)
