The Outlook
Eight years ago, McDowell shocked the golf world – well, at least all but at the most committed enthusiasts – when he won the U.S. Open at Pebble Beach as a plucky ball-striker who was trending in the right direction. Another win this week might be even more shocking, as he’s dropped outside the world’s top 150, though he’s showed some improvements recently. Finishing T-12 and T-5 in his past two starts on the European Tour could be enough to offer him some promise entering this week, as he could use a strong result at a big event to help make a serious run at the Ryder Cup later this year.
