Hero World Challenge Preview
The PGA Tour heads to Albany Golf Course in the Bahamas for the 2023 Hero World Challenge as 20 of the world's top players will compete over 72 holes this weekend.
Viktor Hovland is the outright betting favorite this week in the Bahamas as he looks to win his third consecutive Hero World Challenge. As of Tuesday afternoon at bet365, the Norwegian is priced at +400 to defend his title. Hovland ended the FedExCup Playoffs in style as he won the last two events, the BMW Championship and the Tour Championship, and he looks to pick up where he left off in August this week.
He's followed on the odds board by Scottie Scheffler, who has the second-shortest outright odds to win this week at +500. While Hovland has won each of the last two Hero World Challenges, Scheffler has come in solo second in each of the last two Hero World Challenges in his only two appearances at this event. The Texas Longhorn put together historic ball-striking stats this past season on the PGA Tour that were reminiscent of Tiger Woods.
Speaking of Woods, he is back in the field this week as he hosts the 2023 Hero World Challenge. Woods will compete in a 72-hole event for just the third time this calendar year as he makes his first appearance since the Masters Tournament. Woods is looking for his fifth win at the Hero World Challenge after winning this event four times between 2004 and 2011.
The Hero World Challenge is not an official PGA Tour event, so Woods cannot break his tie with Sam Snead for the most career PGA Tour wins at 82 even with a victory this week. However, this will serve as a great opportunity for Woods to measure his game against many of the world's best in this small but mighty field of 20 golfers. Woods is tied with Lucas Glover with the longest odds to win outright this week at +5000.

Like Woods, Max Homa also went to college in the Bay Area, and he has the third-shortest outright odds this week in the Bahamas at +800 on bet365. Homa rides into this event with momentum after six consecutive top-12 finishes on the PGA Tour to finish the 2023 season along with a win in his most recent start at the Nedbank Golf Challenge on the DP World Tour.
Like his fellow Cal Bear, Collin Morikawa also enters off of a win in his most recent start at the Zozo Championship in Japan. This is Morikawa's third start at the Hero World Challenge after finishing T5 in 2021 and solo sixth last year, and his +850 outright odds are the fourth-shortest on the board as of Tuesday afternoon.
Course Preview
Albany Golf Course hosts the 2023 Hero World Challenge this week for the eighth time as it plays as a par-72 at 7,449 yards. The course, which is a links-style venue designed by Ernie Els in 2010, is unique by PGA Tour standards as it features five par-5s and five par-3s. As a result, there are only eight par-4s on the scorecard this week.
The course features Bermudagrass throughout while there are 52 bunkers and water in play on five different holes. Unfortunately, there is no historical Shotlink data for Albany Golf Course.
Jordan Spieth set the 72-hole scoring record at Albany in 2014 at 262 (-26), while Rickie Fowler set the 18-hole record in his 61 (-11) in the final round of the 2017 Hero World Challenge.
