LIV Singapore is the second of back-to-back tournaments on LIV Golf following Brendan Steele's win at LIV Adelaide.
LIV Golf now heads to Sentosa Golf Club, which sits on the southern shore of Singapore. This course provides some of the best views of any course in the entire world with the Singapore Strait's clear and calm blue waters lingering in the distance. Anytime there's a coastal golf course, monitoring the weather is key.
Rain is possible throughout this event, but there won't be too much wind. This will lengthen the golf course, soften the greens and amplify Driving Distance and Birdie or Better Rate. I would not be shocked to see a leaderboard similar to what we saw at Doral a few weeks before.
Last year, Talor Gooch won this event over Sergio Garcia in a playoff at 17-under. Looking back at Sentosa Golf Club's history, it has hosted the Singapore Open since 2005, which has bounced around the Asian Tour, Japan Tour and European Tour. The average winning score at the Singapore Open (as a 72-hole event) dating back to 2005 is 11.8-under par. That is far off from the 17-under that Gooch and Garcia posted over just 54 holes.
It is truly a shame that LIV Golf plays these awesome tracks on a weekly basis but sets up their courses so easily. They have every chance to firm up the greens or tuck the pins but are seemingly fascinated with "getting low." I am aware they want to flex scoring records, but it is truly doing their players a disservice if they want them to be in peak form heading into the major championships, which are the toughest tests in golf.
Lets take a look at some key statistics ahead of our LIV Golf Singapore Picks and Betting Preview.
LIV Golf Singapore Picks & Betting Preview
Key LIV Golf Singapore Metrics
Total Driving
With rain steadily in the forecast, there will be minimal roll on drives, which will make the track play longer. Below are the longest drivers on LIV Golf who also rank among the top 20 on the tour in Driving Accuracy, which is how I will calculate Total Driving this week.
There are a ton of fairway bunkers and water on this course, so keeping the ball in play is just as important as distance.
Driving Distance + Top 20 in Driving Accuracy
- Jon Rahm
- Matt Wolff
- Bubba Watson
- Brooks Koepka
- Sergio Garcia
These five players are also the only players on LIV Golf to rank among the top 20 in both Driving Distance and Driving Accuracy. Driving the ball long and straight will be a massive key to success this week.
Birdies Per Round
Like any LIV Golf setup, making birdies is extremely important. Below are the birdie leaders up to this point in terms of birdies per round.
- Jon Rahm: 5.28
- Louis Oosthuizen & Joaquin Niemann: 4.94
- Sebastian Muñoz: 4.83
- Abraham Ancer: 4.78
Once again, Rahm ranks as the only player to model out in the two key metrics for the given course.
LIV Golf Singapore Picks
Rahm gave us a sweat last week in Adelaide as he posted a final-round 64 to lose by two strokes. He was in contention on the back nine but could not break through for our third win of the season on LIV Golf. Through six events, I have grabbed two winners using the 7x ROI Card Construction Structure.
- LIV Vegas: Dustin Johnson +1600
- LIV Miami: Dean Burmester +3200
Jon Rahm +700
Rahm is yet to win on LIV Golf this season, but he is so very close. He is the only golfer to finish among the top 10 in all six events thus far and is on the verge of a win.
I am betting on the Spaniard at 7-1 one more time this week, but I also have listed more golfers to consider below if you have a different risk profile and don't want to bet anyone at 7-1.
Any golf course where Adam Scott has won three times, Sergio Garcia has won once and Paul Casey and Justin Rose have finished runner up show how important overall ball-striking prowess is. Rahm has been far and away the best LIV Golf competitor in that aspect, and his win is coming.
The broadcast stated that he was already studying this course in his off time last week, which shows how bad he wants it. Sadly for us, it will need to be another single-bullet week if we go with Rahm because of his price.
Other Outright Bets to Consider
If you prefer not to roll with a single-bullet card, here is another card to tail.
- Abraham Ancer +2200
- Dustin Johnson +2900
- Sergio Garcia +3000
- Peter Uihlein +6500
- Matt Wolff +8000
Betting these five golfers provide just about the exact same ROI as Rahm. I would not suggest betting Rahm plus anyone else in order to avoid getting too exposed to this event.
