For the second time on Friday, the second round of the Masters has been suspended due to rain, the most recent as of 4:22 p.m. ET.

However, in this instance the players have been asked to head to the clubhouse as well.

In addition, patrons have been instructed that a thunderstorm with heavy winds and lightning is closing in on August National.

While we have a break in the action, let’s take a look at the latest Masters weather forecast for Friday, including the chances that the precipitation stops and the second round gets back underway.

Masters Weather Forecast for Friday

According to the updated Masters weather report, Friday’s forecast does not look encouraging.

Based on the National Weather Service’s hourly breakdown, the chance of rain does not dip any lower than 69% in Augusta for the rest of the day.

In fact, that’s the lowest percentage of rain from now through very early on Sunday morning, so we could be in for a long postponement before play gets back underway.

And it’s not just rain actively falling that we should worry about.

It’s reasonable to assume that consistent precipitation from now through Sunday morning will result in a very sloppy and waterlogged Augusta National Golf Club, so even if the weather does dry out, it will take some time to get the course in good-enough condition to restart play.

At this point, it’s difficult to imagine a scenario in which the 2023 Masters doesn’t require a Monday finish.

At the time of Friday’s weather delay at the Masters, Brooks Koepka is the tournament leader at -12, followed by Jon Rahm (-9) and Sam Bennett (-8).
