The PGA Tour heads to the Detroit Golf Club this week for the Rocket Mortgage Classic.
The Donald Ross-designed golf course has historically rewarded bombers as we saw with Bryson DeChambeau winning in 2020. However, shorter hitters, such as 2019 winner Nate Lashley, have also found success in Detroit.
That may be one reason the two biggest liabilities this week at BetMGM are in the top 11 on the PGA Tour in strokes gained off the tee.
Cameron Young sits in second on the PGA Tour in strokes gained off the tee and he's the most significant liability for BetMGM. He is currently +1800 to win the golf tournament. Young is getting 12.8% of the tickets and accounts for 17.8% of the handle. His odds have not changed throughout the week.
Will Zalatoris is the second-biggest liability at BetMGM this week with +1600 odds to win the tournament. He is getting 12.3% of the outright bets and 17.1% of the money.
Max Homa has also become a popular pick for this week at a ball striker's paradise. His odds have moved from +2200 to +2500 despite getting 9.1% of the tickets and 11.3% of the total handle.
Entering the week as the favorite, Patrick Cantlay has seen his odds shift from +900 to +1000. He is still garnering some attention with 6.1% of the bets and 7.2% of the money at BetMGM.
One known bomber who has a knack for finding success on these types of courses is Cam Champ who entered the week at +6600 and is down to +5500 at BetMGM.
With a field lacking some star power, this could be a week where we see one of the young stars break through on the PGA Tour.
