We are through one round of golf at Royal Troon. Daniel Brown leads the way with a 6 under 65 to steal the first round lead from Shane Lowry. Tough beat for the Lowry +4500 first round leader backers, that one hurt.
There are a ton of live betting opportunities ahead of round two at The Open. Below, we will look at some of the statistics and betting lines to find us some success heading into the second round of the 152nd Open Championship.
Below are two best bets for round 2 of The Open Championship.
Gary Woodland -120 3-Ball
Woodland tees it up at 2:19 am EST alongside Ernie Els and Amateur Altin Van Der Merwe. Woodland shot the low round in this 3-ball on day one with a five over 76. Nothing great, but it was enough to cash in the first round. I believe that will be the case again on Friday.
Woodland is five over and will be on the fringes of making the cut. He knows he needs a solid round to play the weekend in a major.
Els and Van Der Merwe shot a combined +19 in round one. Ernie simply does not have the pop or stamina to run with these guys, even Gary Woodland who is not in his prime will run circles around him.
Van Der Merwe is a young South African Amateur who is in a mental pretzel right now. He has never experienced a golf course like this and gets to tee it up with one of his childhood heroes. Tough to play solid golf under those circumstances, especially if you are an unproven player.
Woodland is by no means in great form but he is the most complete golfer of this trio, and has a lot to play for in round two of The Open. Lay the -120 here.
Xander Schauffele Top 5 +110
Very comfortable round of 69 for Xander on Thursday. More importantly than anything, he gained strokes in every category.
Xander is a complete golfer and he showed that in round one. He is firmly in the mix in yet another major and I am sure that will be the case come Sunday afternoon, grab that plus money while you can!
