The third round of The RSM Classic didn't do much to separate anyone from the field as there are 25 players within four shots of the shared lead, which is held by Patrick Rodgers and Ben Martin. They shot 5- and 6-under rounds, respectively, which were only bested by Adam Svensson, who shot an 8-under that put him as a part of the group one-shot back at 13-under.
While there isn't a big name who necessarily sticks out, there are plenty of story lines going into Sunday. Rodgers was a highly touted player out of Stanford who has yet to find a win and this is certainly his best opportunity. He leads the likes of Sahith Theegala, who also burst onto the scene as a highly regarded player out of college and is on the cusp of a big career, which could start with his first win tomorrow.
Then, there's the defacto tournament favorite, Brian Harman, who is a longtime veteran on TOUR and local to this track. That's only three of the aforementioned 25 in the hunt in this final round and many more have similar stories.
There aren't many players from that group that we can eliminate going into Sunday. It's truly anyone's tournament to win in the final round. If we can find the right guys who can make a move, this is a Sunday that could present a nice opportunity to pick a winner with some good odds.
Best Bets
Taylor Montgomery +1200 (BetMGM)
It's the final tournament of the year, so I'm going to take a couple shots here for a winner. I'll start things with Taylor Montgomery, who has burst onto the PGA Tour scene and picked up right where he left off after a fantastic Korn Ferry Tour season.
He's a player who has really shown up on the greens and the putter could very well be the club that separates the winner on Sunday in Seaside. He has also gotten progressively better this week with his ball striking. After he lost 1.64 shots to the field on approach in the first round, he gained 1.49 in Round 3.
I'm going to look to ride that momentum on a player we may see rise up the rankings in the new year.
Will Gordon +3500 (DraftKings)
Will Gordon is certainly one of those players who has gotten hot with his play this fall. He only has one top-10 finish to show for it, but he's often flashed with individual low rounds.
I've noted that with him in the past with him and he showed it again with his 8-under round on Saturday. I'm going back to the well on the former Vanderbilt Commodore as I know he has a really low round in his bag.
If he can get it to come out tomorrow, it could certainly lead to his first career win.
