It got a little sweaty down the stretch, but Tiger Woods and Peyton Manning ended up beating Phil Mickelson and Tom Brady, 1 up, in Sunday's "The Match."

The event, with raised more than $20 million for COVID-19 relief, took place at Medalist Golf Club in Florida and featured a back-and-forth affair between the four legends. Mickelson and Brady's in-play odds got up to 12-1 when they were down 3 with eight to play. But the duo won two of the next four holes to pull with one.

Despite not winning a hole after No. 6, Woods and Manning emerged victorious, thanks to their a hot start.

Hole 1

Par 4

  • Hole Result: Halve
  • Best ball scores: Tiger (par) / Phil (par)
  • Match Score: Tied

Started in a steady rain with some lengthy Samuel L. Jackson intros before each tee shot, both Manning and Brady went way left with their openers, but the pros picked up the slack, posting a pair of fairly routine pars to halve the first hole in a not-so-brisk 22 minutes

Live Odds After Hole 1

Hole 2

Par 4

  • Hole Result: Halve
  • Best ball scores: Peyton (par) / Phil (par)
  • Match Score: Tied

After a two-minute on-air explanation of how he was planning to hit a pitch shot from just off the green, Mickelson indeed pulls it off, knocking the shot tight to save par. Meanwhile, Manning and Woods both lag their long birdie attempts and are (finally) conceded the par putts to halve a second straight hole to start the match.

  • Woods/Manning odds: -186
  • Mickelson/Brady odds: +155

Hole 3

Par 5

  • Hole Result: Woods/Manning Win
  • Best ball scores: Peyton (Net Birdie) / Phil (Par)
  • Match Score: Tiger/Peyton 1 up

We finally have some blood on the third hole, as Woods is conceded birdie and Manning is conceded net-birdie to give their team a 1-up lead. Perhaps the most entertaining part of the hole occurred on the tee box, when Mickelson announced that the CEO of Workday, one of his sponsors, would kick in an extra $1.5 million to the initial charity number of $250,000 for the long drive, only to watch as Woods banged one straight down the fairway to win.

Meanwhile, Brady sliced and chunked his way around, perhaps a precursor to the back-nine alternate shot.

  • Mickelson/Brady odds: +280

Hole 4

Par 3

  • Hole Result: Woods/Manning Win
  • Best ball scores: Peyton (Birdie) / Phil (Par)
  • Match Score: Tiger/Peyton 2 up

Manning knocked his tee shot on this par-3 onto the green, then is outdone by partner Woods, who stiffs one closer. But the QB has the last laugh over his teammate, rolling in the birdie putt to win the hole and move Woods/Manning to 2-up through four holes.

  • Mickelson/Brady odds: +550

Hole 5

Par 4

  • Hole Result: Halve
  • Best ball scores: Tiger (Bogey) / Phil (Bogey)
  • Match Score: Tiger/Peyton 2 up

In the one-club challenge between the pros, both Woods and Mickelson use a mid-iron on the par-4. Needing to putt with that club, as well, Mickelson misses his par attempt, then Woods lips out his to halve the hole and keep Woods/Manning from winning a third in a row.

  • Woods/Manning odds: -715
  • Mickelson/Brady odds: +550

Hole 6

Par 4

  • Hole Result: Woods/Manning
  • Best ball scores: Peyton (Net Birdie) / Phil (Par)
  • Match Score: Tiger/Peyton 3 up

As Brady continues to struggle — to put it mildly — Manning looks very comfortable hanging with the pros. On the par-4 sixth hole — the second of three where the QBs get a stroke on the front-nine — Manning holes a par putt for a net-3 and a third win in four holes for Team Woods.

To use an old quote, it's getting late early for Team Mickelson, which shouldn't see things get much easier in the back-nine alt-shot format.

Live Odds After Hole 6

  • Woods/Manning odds: -2000
  • Mickelson/Brady odds: +1100

Hole 7

Par 5

  • Hole Result: Halve
  • Best ball scores: Tiger (Birdie) / Brady (Birdie)
  • Match Score: Tiger/Peyton 3 up

After struggling mightily for the first six holes, Brady needs three shots just to get his ball back into the fairway on the par-5 seventh, then inexplicably spins in a wedge for birdie — the golf equivalent of a 28-3 comeback. Woods can only manage a halve when his lengthy eagle attempt lips out, but his team remains 3-up with 11 holes to play.

Hole 8

Par 3

  • Hole Result: Halve
  • Best ball scores: Peyton (Net Birdie) / Mickelson (Birdie)
  • Match Score: Tiger/Peyton 3 up

On a par-3 with a $25 million charitable prize for a hole-in-one, Mickelson knocks one to within 6 feet, claiming it just needed a "harder kick" to make a closer run at the prize. He converts for birdie, but on the third and final hole where the QBs get a stroke in the best-ball portion of the match, Manning two-putts from just left of the hole for a net-2 to halve this one.

Live Odds After Hole 8

  • Woods/Manning odds: -2000
  • Mickelson/Brady odds: +1100

Hole 9

Par 4

  • Hole Result: Halve
  • Best ball scores: Peyton (Net Birdie) / Mickelson (Birdie)
  • Match Score: Tiger/Peyton 3 up

Halved with pars, the ninth will be less remembered for the golf than the banter — and it's not even the players lobbing grenades at each other. J.J. Watt, speaking from home, suggests Brady needs to shotgun a few beers at the turn. Justin Thomas, serving as an on-course commentator, suggests he'd like to see Charles Barkley's "fat ass" try to dunk a basketball right now — to which Barkley counters that he's going to turn JT in to the HR department. The golf has been moderately entertaining, but the entertainment value is 3-up at the turn over last week's telecast, which is also the same lead that Team Woods owns right now.

Hole 10

Par 4

  • Hole Result: Halve
  • Best ball scores: Peyton (Par) / Mickelson (Par)
  • Match Score: Tiger/Peyton 3 up

On the first hole of the modified alternate-shot format, it was surprisingly uneventful, as Manning and Mickelson missed the green with their approach shots, but Woods and Brady (!) hit a couple of nice lags from off the putting surface to halve the hole, as Team Woods remains 3-up.

Hole 11

Par 4

  • Hole Result: Mickelson/Brady win
  • Best ball scores: Tiger/Peyton (Birdie) / Mickelson/Brady (Eagle)
  • Match Score: Tiger/Peyton 2 up

In a strange twist, both teams actually seem to be playing better in alt-shot than they did in best-ball. Mickelson drives the driveable par-4, then Brady rolls in the eagle putt. With Woods standing near what was going to be a birdie attempt, Mickelson calls out, "That's good!" as his team is now only 2-down.

Hole 12

Par 3

  • Hole Result: Halve
  • Best ball scores: Tiger/Peyton (Par) / Mickelson/Brady (Par)
  • Match Score: Tiger/Peyton 2 up

Woods and Mickelson each hit nice tee shots to pin-high on the par-3, but the QBs fail to convert their birdie putts, as the hole is halved with pars. Team Woods remains 2-up with six holes to play.

  • Woods/Manning odds: -770

Hole 13

Par 5

  • Hole Result: Halve
  • Best ball scores: Tiger/Peyton (Bogey) / Mickelson/Brady (Bogey)
  • Match Score: Tiger/Peyton 2 up

As the "summer squall" picks up and starts hammering down rain on Medalist GC, each team has a few loose swings on this par-5. Eventually, Manning misses about a 12-foot par attempt, followed by Mickelson missing a 10-footer of his own on the low side, keeping his side from getting to within 1-down. Instead, they remain 2-down with five holes left to play, and are +700 favorites to complete the comeback.

Hole 14

Par 4

  • Hole Result: Mickelson/Brady win
  • Best ball scores: Tiger/Peyton (Bogey) / Mickelson/Brady (Par)
  • Match Score: Tiger/Peyton 1 up

Mickelson hits a low approach into this par-4 and asks for it to skip and check, which it does nicely. Brady misses the birdie putt, but Manning misses his par attempt in return, giving the hole to Team Mickelson and moving them to just 1-down with four holes to play.

Hole 15

Par 4

  • Hole Result: Halve
  • Best ball scores: Tiger/Peyton (Par) / Mickelson/Brady (Par)
  • Match Score: Tiger/Peyton 1 up

After Brady wins the QB Long Drive Competition with a 3-wood off the tee, he knocks a birdie attempt well past the hole, but Mickelson cleans up the par save to halve the hole. As far as crucial putts during exhibition matches go, that one certainly fit the model.

Hole 16

Par 3

  • Hole Result: Halve
  • Best ball scores: Tiger/Peyton (Birdie) / Mickelson/Brady (Birdie)
  • Match Score: Tiger/Peyton 1 up

With the daylight dwindling, it's the two QBs who knock it tight on the par-3 16th hole. Manning's is so good that birdie is conceded, while Mickelson calmly taps in after Brady knocked it to 3 feet. Fun hole, good halve. Team Woods remains 1-up with two to play.

Hole 17

Par 5

  • Hole Result: Halve
  • Best ball scores: Tiger/Peyton (Par) / Mickelson/Brady (Par)
  • Match Score: Tiger/Peyton 1 up

The banter dying with the daylight, these guys are now playing more seriously and more quickly. After Manning just missed a lengthy birdie attempt on this par-5, Mickelson coaches Brady on his effort that just barely misses. The hole is halved with pars and Team Woods leads 1-up with one hole to play.

Hole 18

Par 4

  • Hole Result: Halve
  • Best ball scores: Tiger/Peyton (Par) / Mickelson/Brady (Par)
  • Match Score: Tiger/Peyton win 1 up

This wasn't the first time Woods lagged a long birdie putt to clinch a win. After Mickelson gave his birdie chip a valiant effort, but left it short, Woods hit a perfect lag putt to ensure par to halve the final hole and claim a 1-up victory for the match.
