Kentucky Derby horse and betting contender Practical Move has been scratched from Saturday's race at Churchill Downs.
Trainer Tim Yakteen confirmed Thursday the 3-year-old colt had an "elevated temperature" and will drop out of the field.
Practical Move was 9-1 ($10 to win 90) on May 1 at TwinSpires to win the Kentucky Derby. Those were the fourth-shortest odds behind Forte (3-1), Angel of Empire (8-1) and Tapit Rice (8-1).
Practical Move is jockeyed by Ramon Vazquez. The horse was slotted for post 10.
Practical Move will be replaced by Cyclone Mischief, the latter taking post 20 at Churchill Downs Saturday. Cyclone Mischief recently posted a third-place finish at the Florida Derby and another second-place finish at the Fountain of Youth.
Yakteen will still be active at Churchill Downs as Reincarnate is racing in the Kentucky Derby.
Practical Move's scratch comes in the wake of four horses dying over a five-day span at Churchill Downs.
"While a series of events like this is highly unusual, it is completely unacceptable," Churchill Downs said in a statement. "We take this very seriously and acknowledge that these troubling incidents are alarming and must be addressed."
Forte remains the betting favorite for Saturday's race.
