Everybody loves a Kentucky Derby longshot.
According to the latest Kentucky Derby odds, there are currently six horses with odds longer than 35-1 to win tonight's race at Churchill Downs (6:57 p.m. ET, NBC).
This doesn't necessarily mean that they're smart bets, but if you're curious as to which horses could potentially provide a big payout for a small investment, here are the biggest Kentucky Derby longshots to win on Saturday night, with our longshot expert picks below.
Kentucky Derby Longshots
*Odds via KentuckyDerby.com as of Saturday morning
Rocket Can (36-1 odds)
As you'll see below, odds for most of the longshots have tightened throughout race week, though Rocket Can's line has actually increased from 25-1 to 36-1 over the past five days.
Sun Thunder (37-1)
Sun Thunder hasn't been much of mover to this point, dipping slightly from 40-1 to 37-1 odds for the Kentucky Derby.
Raise Cain (37-1)
Raise Cain has moved step-for-step with Sun Thunder on the Kentucky Derby odds board as well, adjusting from 40-1 to 37-1.
Jace's Road (39-1)
There are three Kentucky Derby longshots on the board at 39-1 odds, including Jace's Road.
While this horse's price has shortened as much as other longshots, Jace's Road's odds were sitting at 50-1 on Monday.
Cyclone Mischief (39-1)
Similar to Jace's Road, Cyclone Mischief has shorted from 50-1 to 39-1 over the past five days, likely due to a handful of horses getting scratched over that span.
King Russell (39-1)
King Russell is among the biggest longshots with Jace's Road and Cyclone Mischief as of Saturday morning, though this horse's odds movement has been much more significant.
On Monday, King Russell was the longest of longshots on the Kentucky Derby odds board at 80-1, but, as I just mentioned, that price is now 39-1 on race day.
Kentucky Derby Longshot Picks
In our 2023 Kentucky Derby Best Bets, Picks: Winner, Exactas, Superfectas, Longshots, Action Network horse racing expert Mike Conti shared his three Kentucky Derby longshot picks:
No. 1 Hit Show (30-1) will outrun his odds. He’s 30-1 on the morning line, but had he not drawn the rail and won the Wood Memorial, his odds would be 10-1.
No. 21 Cyclone Mischief (30-1) drew in after the scratch of Practical Move. In full transparency, I’ve always loved this horse and made a futures bet on him back in January. He’s expected to be on or close to the lead, and in a race with so many questions around the pace, being forwardly placed is a big advantage.
No. 7 Reincarnate (50-1) only has one choice, and that’s to GO. In a race where we don’t know what the pace is going to be, I’m going to put a longshot horse like this in where I think they’re going to be much more forwardly placed.
