The 150th Kentucky Derby is expected to be one for the history books.
But there is always one key factor that cannot be controlled — the weather. Mother Nature will have her say on Saturday's Kentucky Derby, one way or another. The good news is that forecasts aren't expecting anything too terrible for the Run for the Roses.
Saturday is expected to be relatively warm with a high of 81 degrees. The weather is expected to roll in during the morning with a 30% chance of precipitation in the Louisville area.
"A shower or two possible early with partly cloudy skies in the afternoon. High 82F. Winds W at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 30%," Weather.com said on Wednesday night.
The forecast expects the rain to subside early and clear up for the big races in the afternoon with partly cloudy skies.
Kentucky Derby post time is set for 6:57 p.m. ET. It isn't expected to be raining, but there is the possibility of a muddy track.
The horse to watch on a muddy track for the Kentucky Derby is Mystik Dan. He posted a 101 Beyer Speed number when he won the 2024 Southwest Stakes by eight lengths on a sloppy track.

For the Kentucky Oaks on Friday, there is a much higher chance of a sloppy track. The chance of precipitation on Friday is 80% with highs in the 70s.
