The California Redwoods face the Philadelphia Waterdogs in a game that'll likely determine which team ends up with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 Premier Lacrosse League Draft. Philadelphia is a 1.5-point favorite and the total ranges between 22.5-23.5, depending on the sportsbook. Let’s take a look at my Premier Lacrosse League Week 10 Friday picks.

No team has failed to live up to expectations more than the Waterdogs, who were officially eliminated from playoff contention last weekend and dropped to 1-7 on the season. Yet, they’ve still demonstrated that they are a much better team than their fellow bottom-dweller in the standings. California may have one more win, but the point differentials paint a different picture. Philadelphia has a -12 differential, but five of its seven losses have been in one-possession games. Meanwhile, California has a -32 point differential, which is likely going to keep it out of the playoffs, even if the Redwoods do miraculously manage to get to four wins.

Even with Ryan Conrad traded and Connor Kelly, Jake Carraway and Liam Byrnes out of the lineup, I still think the Waterdogs win this game by multiple goals. They may not have much to play for as far as this season is concerned, but many players are playing for their jobs with free agency looming.

I have a hard time seeing Philadelphia's offensive woes continuing against the Redwoods' young defense. There’s always a chance Jack Kelly has another 19-save performance, like he did last year against the Waterdogs, but I’m expecting Philadelphia to have a lot of success on Friday night. There’s also a chance rookie Chayse Ierlan makes his first career start after replacing Kelly midway through the game last week. California has also been very bad at defending in transition and Philadelphia has the short-stick defensive midfielders and long-poles to exploit this weakness.

Bet the Waterdogs to win and cover the 1.5-point spread at -130 on BetMGM.

I like Philadelphia to secure the win, but am also targeting Rob Pannell to go Over 2.5 points.

California’s offense has often stalled, but Pannell has been a fairly consistent point producer. In fact, he's recorded three or more points in five of seven full games this season and likely would have gone over 2.5 points last week had the game not been called 10 minutes early due to weather. Looking at a larger sample size, Pannell has had three or more points in 14 of his past 19 full games, including a four-point performance against the Waterdogs in 2023.

This is a good spot to bet Pannell to go Over 2.5 points at -130 on BetMGM or DraftKings.

Picks: Philadelphia Waterdogs -1.5, Rob Pannell Over 2.5 Points
