Sunday in the Premier Lacrosse League starts with another installment in the Utah Archers vs. Carolina Chaos rivalry. Utah is a 1.5-point favorite and the total is currently 21.5 after opening as low as 20.5. Let’s take a look at my favorite bets for this Sunday afternoon matchup.

Is this Total Too Low?

While the presence of goaltenders Brett Dobson and Blaze Riorden is typically a recipe for a low-scoring game, this total is too low given the offensive personnel on both sides. It’s well-known that Utah’s stable of scorers may be the best in the league, but Carolina recently rostered a few extra offensive weapons this week, activating Sergio Perkovic from the injured reserve and adding Tye Kurtz back in the lineup in the absence of Jules Heningburg.

While these teams only combined for 16 goals in their most recent meeting, both teams were generating quality chances. Dobson (72%) and Riorden (55%) were the two catalysts for keeping this total low, but I expect both opposing offenses to have a bit more success against these two goalies in round two. Both teams also typically push transition more often than we saw in June and we should see a faster tempo in this game than the last time around.

Bet this game to go over 21.5 at -104 on FanDuel.

Carolina's Shooting Accuracy

I’m also betting Carolina to finish with the most shots on goal. When these teams last faced, Carolina had 27 shots on goal to Utah’s 20. The Chaos have also been known to be more patient with their shot selection, ranking second in shots on goal at 64%. Meanwhile, the Archers are sitting at fifth with 60.3%.

Ultimately, these odds should be closer to a 50-50 split with Carolina getting the slight edge if there is one, but the odds don’t reflect that. Bet the Chaos to record the most shots on goal a half unit on Carolina to finish with the most shots on goal at +160 on BetMGM.

Two Effective Player Props

As for my two favorite player props, both feature Utah players.

Grant Ament has been effective from the midfield this season — particularly as a goal scorer. Most defenses are daring him to dodge his one-on-one matchups out of fear, inevitably allowing him to create more scoring chances.

The result has create 11 goals through six games for Ament. He’s also had two or more goals in six of his last eight games, including earlier this season against Carolina. At -136 on FanDuel, these odds are good to bet Ament to go over 1.5 goals on Sunday.

Finally, I’m betting Matt Moore to score a first quarter goal. While Moore has been streaky this season, he still remains a starter on Utah’s attack line and has seen some success in recent weeks, scoring five goals in his last two games. At +255 on FanDuel, the odds for Moore to score in the first quarter are a bit too long given his position on the field. Bet 0.2 unit on Moore to find the back of the net in the opening period.

Picks: Over 21.5, Carolina Chaos Most Shots On Goal (0.5 unit), Grant Ament Over 1.5 Goals, Matt Moore 1st Quarter Goal Scorer (0.2 unit)
