No BetRivers promo code is needed for users in the following three states to take advantage of a 2nd Chance Bet. If you win, you keep your winnings. But if you lose, you'll get a bonus bet equal to your initial wager:
- Michigan: 2nd Chance Bet: Get up to a $500 Bonus Bet!
- New Jersey: 2nd Chance Bet: Get up to a $250 Bonus Bet!
- Pennsylvania: 2nd Chance Bet: Get up to a $500 Bonus Bet!
- West Virginia: 2nd Chance Bet: Get up to a $100 Bonus Bet!
BetRivers entered the U.S. market right away in 2018, hoping it could use its physical casino brands to help build an online sports betting presence. But after 5+ years, it's clear BetRivers is scaling back its sports betting efforts. Even in other states where Rivers has a strong regional casino presence and a headstart against the other online brands, it's struggled to box out DraftKings and FanDuel.
- How Your BetRivers Promo Code Will Play Out
Let’s take a look at how the BetRivers second chance bet will play out. I’m in New Jersey, so I’ll use the $250 max as an example.
Part 1: I place a $250 wager on West Virginia to beat Penn State at +300 in Week 1 of the 2024 college football season.
-
If West Virginia wins, I profit $750 ($250 x 3.0) and return my $250 stake. I’ll now have $1,000 in my account that I can withdraw or continue betting.
-
If West Virginia loses, I’ll get back a $250 bonus bet.
Action Tip: BetRivers refunds your bonus bet in one increment, equal to what you lost and you have 14 days to use them. You can’t split the bonus bet up into different wagers, like you can at FanDuel or bet365.
Part 2: I’ll need to wager my $250 in bonus bets in 14 days to redeem some or all of my deposit.
I’ll take the bonus bet and put it on the Panthers to beat the Saints in Week 1 of the 2024 NFL season, priced at +200.
-
If the Panthers win, I’ll profit $500 ($250 x 2.0), but I don’t keep the bonus bet itself. So now off a $250 deposit, I’ll have $500 cash in my account and the promo is over, good for $250 in profit. I can withdraw or continue betting that money.
-
If the Panthers lose, my bonus bet is going and I’m left with $0 in my account.
Action Tip: Bonus bets at BetRivers can be placed on wagers -200 or longer only (meaning -150 or +150 are OK but -250 is not). That’s fine, because betting those steep prices is a very inefficient way to use bonus bets anyway. For parlays, each leg must have odds of -200 or longer.

Where is BetRivers Legal?
Thanks to its retail casino presence, BetRivers has the seventh-biggest footprint of any sportsbook in the U.S. The trouble for BetRivers is that it doesn’t operate anywhere unique – it doesn’t have monopoly access like Hard Rock does in Florida, it doesn’t operate in Nevada, etc. It did hold one of three Connecticut sports betting licenses before surrendering it; that license was scooped up by Fanatics Sportsbook.

Four Ways to Use Your BetRivers Promo
1. The Optimal Way
Betting your first bet insurance at plus-money
At all sportsbooks offering some kind of first bet insurance – BetRivers calls it a second chance bet, bet365’s is a first bet safety net – you want to make your first wager on a longshot.
It’s a bit counterintuitive, but stick with me: The sportsbook is offering you a bonus, but you only get that bonus if you lose your initial wager. So you want to give yourself a higher chance of losing so you can get the bonus – sort of. You don’t want to pick a loser, but the expected value will always be higher if you are betting at longer odds.
Action Tip: You don’t get a bonus bet if your initial wager pushes, so you should avoid bets that have a significant chance of pushing, which basically includes all whole number spreads and totals.
2. The “Safe” Way
Hedging the promo at another sportsbook
There’s a way to guarantee profit if you’re just interested in turning the promo into cash without actually gambling. However, this is against the sportsbook’s terms and conditions.
BetRivers describes it like this: “Risk-free and low-risk bets on any games (i.e., betting in proportions on different outcomes in the same hand to create “action” with minimum or no risk) are considered abuse of the promotion and will null player’s participation.”
In Europe, this is called “matched betting.” In the U.S., it’s most-often called “conversion.” There’s a little bit of math involved, and if you’re betting the full $500 depending on your BetRivers state
When converting your second chance bet, there are either two or three steps, depending on how your first bet goes.
- Find a game with “tight lines” at the two different sportsbooks.
- Bet the underdog with the insurance bet, and bet the favorite with the other sportsbook
- If your insurance bet loses, you’ll have to repeat the process with your bonus bet.
Here’s an example. You bet $500 at BetRivers on the Dallas Wings at +280. To know how much to bet on the other side – Mercury -320 – use a tool like CrazyNinjaOdds. In this case, it’s $1,180.95.
Scenario | Total Winnings | |
Wings win | Profit $1400 & lose $1,181 from hedge | $219 |
Mercury win | Win $1,180.95 and get $500 bonus bet | $219 (after converting bonus bet) |
Action Tip: If using techniques like this, never use exact amounts, down to the cent. It’s a dead giveaway to sportsbooks that you’re trying to guarantee profit with their promos. And if you’re a sharp bettor worried about being limited, don’t max out the promo – bet $450 instead of $500, for example.
You want the Wings to win, since you don’t need to do the second step if they do, and you'll profit $219.
If they lose you also get back a $500 bonus bet, and you’ll have to convert that to cash using a similar method. But as long as you do the amounts correctly and know how to convert that $1,000 bonus bet to cash, you’ll make the same profit – $219 off your initial $500 deposit.
3. The Fun Way
Doing whatever you want and will give you entertainment value
At the end of the day, it’s your money. You should never bet anything you don’t feel comfortable losing, and you should bet how you want to bet.
Parlay a bunch of stuff and try to turn $200 into $1,500. Bet a future on your favorite team. While I don’t recommend either of those mathematically, it’s supposed to be fun, and this is about entertainment at the end of the day.
4. The Wrong Way
There are many ways to use these promos incorrectly
There are tons of ways to use these promos non-optimally, like betting a massive favorite, betting a point spread at -110, or hedging with another user claiming the same promo (which is also against BetRivers’ terms and conditions).
BetRivers' Mobile App & Website Experience
There’s good news and bad news about the BetRivers product.
The bad news: It uses white-labeled odds and tech from third-party odds provider Kambi, so it’s difficult to create truly differentiated experiences and markets for users.
The good news: Many of the other sportsbooks that used Kambi have shut their doors or switched to their own tech platforms.
So by default, BetRivers has a more unique platform than it did three years ago. Go figure.
Still, the sportsbook app is nothing to write home about. Like many other legacy sportsbooks, BetRivers feels like a byproduct of the early 2000s betting experience. Built for desktop bettors in Europe 20 years ago, not for mobile app users in the U.S. in 2024. Moving around can be a bit slow;

Mobile App Review Categories
Our Action Network experts analyzed several vital categories that can make or break a sportsbook app:
- Usability: Ease of Logging In - Navigation - App Speed - Game Data Density - The Bet Slip
- Coverage: Available Markets
- Pricing: By Sport Pricing
Logging In
How easy is it to sign in to BetRivers?
Unlike many other sportsbooks, the BetRivers mobile app does not appear to offer any type of Face ID sign-in function. As a result, users must manually sign in to the app for every use. This can be inconvenient and annoying at best but at worst, it can take precious seconds away from bettors trying to place a timely live wager or get a bet in before the start of a contest.
Final Verdict: Needs Improvement. Most sportsbooks offer a better login experience, particularly Caesars, bet365, and theScore.
Navigation
How straightforward is finding and browsing betting markets?
Navigating the BetRivers app is not as intuitive and streamlined as can be found on other sportsbooks. We evaluated navigation based on two components: organization and in-app search.
Organization
The layout of the BetRivers app is sufficient. A sports market navigation bar at the top of the screen makes it easy to filter by sport markets as desired. The home page provides a list of local contests at the top then is followed by events that are currently live and upcoming. Moving through the home screen and top navigation is relatively intuitive despite not being as sleek or visually appealing as other apps. One layout negative that our experts noted was that BetRivers is trying to push users to their casino games from their sportsbook. This is an annoying and intrusive design element for those interested in sports betting.
In-app Search
BetRivers provides a solid in-app search feature. When searching, the BetRivers app will return results with all markets featuring the team you've searched for. For example, a search for the "Mets" in our testing gave our handicappers a list of upcoming Mets games and any futures markets.
Final Verdict: Average. The overall navigation of the BetRivers mobile app is easy enough to use and offers a reasonably powerful in-app search feature. However, the apparent push towards casino games detracts from the overall layout of the app, in addition to its less-than-attractive design. DraftKings and FanDuel are better options for users most interested in in-app navigation.
App Speed
How quickly does the BetRivers mobile app update and respond to input?
BetRivers is noticeably slower than most of the other mobile apps that our team has tested. The BetRivers mobile experience has the feel of a website that was simply repurposed for mobile use. There is a clear gap between this app and other native iOS platforms used by other sportsbooks.
Final Verdict: Needs Improvement. BetRivers does not stack up well to other sportsbooks regarding app speed. There is a need for a pure mobile design that puts the mobile user's needs first. DraftKings, PointsBet, and FanDuel are all speedy options.
Data Density
How many games can you view odds for at once?
Data density is an essential factor for mobile sportsbook apps. Essentially, it enables users to take in more game odds at once without having to scroll or click through different screens on the app to facilitate quicker betting decisions. We tested game density using an iPhone 12 Pro to determine density rankings in the mobile view of iOS. Here is what we found:
- FanDuel - 4.5 Games
- Tied DraftKings & BetMGM - 4 Games
- Tied BetRivers, PointsBet & Caesars - 3 Games
Final Verdict: Needs Improvement. BetRivers is tied with PointsBet and Caesars in offering the fewest games per screen on mobile. FanDuel, DraftKings, and BetMGM lead the way in data density.
Bet Slip
How intuitive is the bet slip experience?
The bet slip is arguably one of the essential features in any sportsbook app since this is where bets are placed. Having a confusing or clunky bet slip can deter users from the app, which is why this is such an important feature to get right. BetRivers offers a solid bet slip for the most part. Here are some of the critical points that we've noted when examining the BetRivers bet slip:
- The bet slip is easy to find in the static bottom navigation, but it's off to the side of the toolbar as opposed to a more prime position.
- The bet slip completely disappears when users add more than one wager to the bet slip. Most sports books will minimize the bet slip while new additions are made but remain visible for easy toggling. So users are required to have to re-open the bet slip after each addition.
- It is easy to remove games from the bet slip once added.
- The bet slip lists out how much users stand to win for each wager with and without the original stake included. This is convenient to see the actual profit for a bet.
- BetRivers' bet slip has three tabs that separate bet options by single bets, parlays, and round robins. The slip will automatically update selections in the bet slip to align with the tab the user is in at a given time.
Final Verdict: Good. Despite the minor annoyance of the bet slip disappearing when more than one wager is added, BetRivers has a pretty good bet slip experience overall. Caesars and FoxBet are the top two competitors regarding bet slips.

BetRivers Website Review
BetRivers' desktop site has straightforward, intuitive navigation: You can easily find the sport and bet you want on either the left-hand side or the top navigation bar. Space is a bit limited, so finding game props, player props, and derivatives can be a little more challenging — you'll have to click, expand and scroll quite a bit if you're trying to find a more niche bet or market.
One experience that some people may like but find unnecessary is the "Newsfeed" that takes up the whole right-hand side of the desktop experience. BetRivers highlights a running list of player user names and winning bet streaks they're on here. It doesn't display the actual bets, so it's mostly for show rather than the true value.
Perhaps it's cool to see your name pop up on the leaderboard when you're on a hot streak, but otherwise, it's a use of prime real estate that isn't justified by its use to most bettors on the site. You can't follow other users or even see what they're betting, so it's mostly a (likely ineffective) strategy to encourage users to keep gambling to pop up on the leaderboard.
BetRivers Sportsbook has a reasonably standard desktop experience other than that potential annoyance, and we've found it works well. The bet slip experience is substantial, and you can enter the bet amount or the amount you'd like to win, which helps users who don't want to calculate odds by hand.
BetRivers Cashiering
It is important to note that different states have different rules and regulations for sportsbooks, including depositing and withdrawing funds. You may find that the same book might have PayPal for one state but not the other. When signing up, you'll see the options available — but generally, if you use online banking, credit cards, etc., you shouldn't have any problems.
BetRivers is an extensive sportsbook set up for easy deposits and withdrawals. And because they're a legal U.S. book, you don't have to worry about being defrauded or getting your money — you are protected as a consumer by state regulations, which is one of the best advantages of betting legally in the U.S.
How to Deposit on BetRivers
If you wish to add more funds to your BetRivers account after the initial deposit, just follow the simple process below:
- Log in to your BetRivers account
- Select the "Cashier" option in the top right-hand corner of the screen
- Select "Deposits" on the next screen
- Enter the amount of money you'd like to add to your bankroll
- Click the blue "Deposit" button to utilize their default online banking method
- Choose another deposit method if you prefer, and select deposit.
That's it! You've just added more funds to your BetRivers account, which are available for immediate use.
Deposit Options
Here are all the ways that users can deposit funds to their BetRivers account:
- Online Banking
- Mastercard
- Discover Card
- Visa
- PayPal
- VIP Preferred
- BetRivers Play+
- PayNearMe
- Cash at Cage (in retail casinos only)
Withdrawal Options
BetRivers does not feature as many payout options as some other sportsbooks, but it does cover the bases in terms of the top preferences for most users, including:
- Bank account
- Debit card/credit card
- Prepaid BetRivers card(Play+)
- Casino cage
- eCheck
- PayPal
Payout Speed
Payout speed can vary across states or books. Still, you should be able to immediately deposit funds at BetRivers and get your payouts within a couple of days, if not faster. Of course, it depends on your withdrawal choice. For example, a check will take a bit longer, whereas hooking up your online bank account will make the process easier. Again, because BetRivers is a legal, regulated online sportsbook in the U.S., you have worry-free payouts.
Spending Controls
Most legal sportsbooks have self-imposed limiting controls, and BetRivers is no different. These are effective ways to stop betting too much if it's becoming a problem or be proactive about setting healthy limits for yourself. We recommend configuring whatever setup helps you maintain responsible boundaries and educate yourself.
The controls BetRivers offers include:
- Player limit: Limit your deposits by day, week, or month of the year.
- Self-exclusion: Ban yourself from using the app for a set time.
- Cool-off period: Prevent yourself from depositing or placing bets for a specified time while accessing the app.
In addition to the BetRivers-provided resources, The Action Network has developed bankroll management educational materials to help bettors have fun and establish sustainable behavior.
BetRivers Betting Options & Sports Market Coverage
There are only a few sportsbooks in the U.S. and worldwide that open markets — that is, they are the first to set lines on a particular sport or game. BetRivers doesn't usually get into that business, and because they use Kambi, an odds provider, their lines are often very similar to those of other U.S. books. That's not necessarily bad, as it allows them to offer odds on every sport, prop, and market, but it makes them a bit less unique.
Sports Markets Offered
BetRivers offers an extensive range of markets and bets types for various sports. While they aren't unique in their lines, they are a comprehensive book worthy of your betting portfolio. Here is the complete list of sports markets available on BetRivers:
- Football (NFL, NCAA, CFL)
- Basketball (NBA, NCAA, WNBA, BIG3, Philippines Leagues, Puerto Rico Leagues, TBT)
- Baseball (MLB)
- Hockey (NHL, World Championship)
- Soccer (European Leagues, Champions League, Europa League, MLS, World Cup, South American Leagues, Asian Leagues, Australian Leagues)
- Golf (PGA, LIV, Major tournaments)
- Tennis (ATP, WTA, ITF)
- Fighting (Boxing, UFC)
- Motorsports (NASCAR, F1)
- Rugby (Aussie Rules, Rugby Union, European Leagues, Australian Leagues)
- Darts (Premier League Darts, PDC)
- Cricket (ICC)
- Cycling (Cycling Events)
- Handball (World Championship, European Championship)
- Jai Alai
- Lacrosse (Premier Lacrosse League)
Bet Types Available
Again, you can find about everything legal in the U.S. at BetRivers Sportsbook, including some niche markets like cricket, cycling, darts, rugby, and more. You'll also find various game props, player props, derivative markets — the list goes on.
Popular sports betting markets available on BetRivers include:

Other BetRivers Benefits
Daily Odds Boosts
BetRivers offers users odds boosts every day for a variety of sporting events. While these may not always be the most favorable bets, this is a great way to keep users engaged and log back into the app to see the available boost for the day.
Buy Out
A popular feature as legal sports betting has spread across the U.S. is the ability to cash out of an existing bet while it’s in progress. BetRivers allows you to do this with a feature called Buy Out.
For example, let’s say you bet $100 on the Broncos to beat the Chiefs at +250 odds. If they win the game outright, you stand to profit $250. But during the match, BetRivers will allow you to buy out of the bet. If Denver takes a second-half lead, your Buy Out price might be $175, meaning you could lock in a decent profit and eliminate the risk of losing your wager should the Chiefs stage a comeback. You can see your Buy Out price in real-time under the My Bet History section of BetRivers’ website.
Loyalty points
This is dissimilar to some loyalty programs you see with airlines or hotels. For every real-money bet, you make (wagers with bonus bets do not qualify), you’ll receive a certain amount of iRR Loyalty Level Points. You can convert your points into tangible rewards such as more bonus bets or roll wheel spins. The more points you earn, the more rewards you’ll have access to.Odds boosts
BetRivers has made a habit of offering daily odds boosts for individual bets. If you’re unfamiliar, odds boosts are simply regular bets offered at more enticing odds than you’ll find elsewhere. The best thing about these boosts is that they’re available to ALL customers, so even if you’ve been betting on BetRivers for a year, you can still take advantage. For more information on odds boosts, check out our hub here.
More offers and bonuses after your initial deposit: BetRivers will occasionally surprise you with an enticing offer around a big event or give you the chance to claim another deposit offer. It will often communicate these to you via email, but you can also check the My Account tab to see what bonuses you qualify for at any given time.
BetRivers Customer Service
BetRivers’ customer support is available daily from 9:30 a.m. — 2 a.m. EST. You can access their help center here or email support here.
BetRivers has made its CS team highly accessible in the mobile app -- there's a full bottom tab dedicated to it. It takes you into a basic form to be put into a live chat. The submission form pre-populates your contact info, which is a convenient touch.

BetRivers Pricing vs. Other Sportsbooks
While sign-up offers, promos, and user experience are crucial factors in selecting a sportsbook, the most sophisticated bettors are often worried about the price. We can compare books in this regard in a couple of ways:
- Juice: The " juice " is also referred to as the "vig," which is the tax a sportsbook charges for a bet. The standard odds for a spread bet is -110, which means you have to pay $110 to win $10. That extra $10 is the tax.
- Hold: Like the juice, the hold is defined as the percentage a sportsbook keeps for every dollar. It's a better metric to measure for moneylines, for example.
In states where betting is entirely online and not regulated by the state lottery, most online U.S. books have standard juice on your typical bets. Take, for example, the juice on spread bets for the NFL. There's no significant difference between sportsbooks: Getting -110 on both sides is commonplace for both the spread and the over/under.
Regarding hold on moneylines, here's how BetRivers has fared versus other books in the industry. They're right around the industry average in moneyline holds, although they can be slightly higher on non-major sports. If you're interested in betting on the NFL, NBA, or one of the popular sports, BetRivers is an acceptable option.
Depending on the sport, their juice on player props is a little better than average. You can often find props where they are -113 or so both ways — for reference, the best books when it comes to juice are at -110 standard lines even for props, while a lot will increase the vig up to -120 both ways or higher.

Total | 5.63 | 4.66 | 5.27 | 5.40 | 4.64 |
Pricing Analysis Summary
- BetRivers has the highest average price across all sports compared to other significant sportsbooks.
- Caesars had the second highest average price, not excelling in a single sport.

NFL Spread Pricing Summary
- BetRivers mostly skews towards the middle-of-the-pack in both favorites and underdogs pricing. However, they are more likely to have the worst price on favorites than the best price. They only offer users the best price on favorites in an NFL spread bet 3.4% of the time. This is probably not the book to bet NFL favorites.
- BetRivers is in-line or above the average market price 77.6% of the time. It should be noted, though, this is heavily influenced by in-line pricing rather than above-market pricing.
- BetRivers is slightly more favorable to underdog odds as it offers the best price 12% of the time. This is in the middle of the pack compared to other sportsbooks, so it is worth considering BetRivers when betting on an NFL underdog.
- BetRivers is in-line or above the average market price 82.2% of the time for underdogs.
How Much Does "Sportsbook Pricing" Matter?
These pricing differences are most apparent when the moneylines get bigger. For example, BetRivers may have something like this:
- Eagles -200
- Jets +160
Meanwhile, BetMGM might have:
- Eagles - 205
- Jets +175
Even though BetMGM has a slightly worse price on the Eagles, it has a much better price on the Jets, and overall there's less vig on this market than at FanDuel. Over hundreds of bets, that difference in vig starts to add up.
BetRivers is a bit overpriced compared to other sportsbooks, but it is worth keeping in rotation for the occasional better pricing options. While a generally reliable app, BetRivers has an outdated feel and some shortfalls in specific usability areas.

Additional BetRivers Information
BetRivers Canada
BetRivers was one of the initial sportsbooks to launch in Ontario when legal sports betting went live on April 4, 2022. The passage of bill C218 has allowed a variety of sportsbooks to stake their claim in the Canadien province. It's no surprise that BetRivers was one of the first to launch in the area, and it should be expected to see them continue to expand in Canada as new provinces come online.
BetRivers Team Partnerships
BetRivers has established partnerships with various teams across major sports markets. Below is a list of their current partnerships and affiliations:
- Chicago Bears
- New Orleans Pelicans
- Detroit Pistons

Yes! BetRivers launched as sportsbook provider for the state when it went live in January 2022.
Yes, it does. Users are required to deposit at least $10 when adding funds to their account.
You do not need to be a resident to be able to bet through BetRivers in those states. You only have to be 21 years of age, a U.S. citizen and inside the state’s borders to place a bet on BetRivers’ platform. Because online sports betting is legal in these states, BetRivers has the ability to verify that you’re within any of these states before accepting your wager.
A few examples to hammer the point home: Let’s say you live in California, which does not have legal sports betting, and you travel to New Jersey, for a vacation with your family over the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. While you’re in New Jersey, you’re legally able to open a BetRivers sportsbook account and bet on all the sports over the weekend. Once it’s time to head home, you’re able to withdraw any funds remaining in your account — or you can leave them there for your next trip back to New Jersey.
You don’t have to be in a given state for an extended period of time to register for a BetRivers account and place a bet, either. Because it’s such an easy process to sign up for BetRivers, claim your bonus and bet, you can make a quick trip out of it, no problem.
If you open a BetRivers account in one state and travel to another one where it has an online sportsbook, you can use your same login credentials to bet, though the BetRivers sportsbooks in each state have their own distinct homepages.
As part of being a regulated sportsbook, BetRivers is required to verify your identity and ensure that you’re of legal betting age (21) before allowing you to create an account. BetRivers is also required to keep your information safe and says it ensures “our data privacy procedures and processes exceed the industry standards.”
BetRivers is definitely legit. Their 2nd Chance Bet new user promo is one of the best out there. Since BetRivers is a regulated book, you do not have to worry about having issued you may have at other offshore books.
