DraftKings and FanDuel are the most popular online betting sites in the U.S. by a wide margin, but they're unavailable in Las Vegas, or anywhere in Nevada. Vegas has long been considered the gambling capital of the U.S., and sports betting has been around for over 70 years.
P.A.S.P.A, which made online sports betting illegal in the U.S., didn't impact Nevada because the state already had regulations in place.
But Nevada still requires in-person registration for sports betting, unlike most other states where you can sign up right from your phone. And since DraftKings and FanDuel don't have physical locations, they're not available. These books do have physical locations in many other states, so it's not something they're against or can't offer.
Nevada has long kept these two operators out of the state. FanDuel began as a DFS platform in 2009, with DraftKings forming in 2012. They both formed a strong reputation as trustworthy DFS, but never operated in Nevada, since the state requires a full gaming license to offer DFS.
In-Person Sports Betting Registration in Las Vegas
The majority of states offering online sports betting allow you to register an account from your phone or computer. That's not the case in Nevada, as the state requires you to register in person at a physical sportsbook.
DraftKings and FanDuel don't have retail locations in Nevada, making it impossible for the sportsbook to offer services in the Silver State. DFS users can't access DraftKings or FanDuel in Nevada, as the state requires a full gaming license to offer daily fantasy sports.
DK and FD aren't the only sportsbooks affected by the in-person registration process. ESPN BET recently launched in November 2023, while Fanatics Sportsbook is rapidly expanding across the US. Neither sportsbook has a retail location, making it impossible to launch in Nevada.
Arizona is about 40 miles south of Las Vegas, and the state offers DraftKings and FanDuel. If you're willing to make the drive, you can legally wager on any sporting event or betting market on the site.

BetMGM Sportsbook is among the most popular sportsbooks in Nevada due to its volume of physical locations at some of the best casinos on the strip. It is possible to register for a BetMGM account on your phone, but you must visit a retail location to verify your identity.
