The UFC 310 main on ESPN+ PPV features a bout between two of the highest-ranked heavyweight contenders with Ciryl Gane and Alexander Volkov.

This matchup is expected to go the distance, and I will be backing the favorite to win by that method.

Here's my Gane vs. Volkov pick and prediction.

The steam is heavily on Gane, who opened as a -235 favorite before being bet up to his current -410 price tag on FanDuel. This line movement makes sense, considering that Gane is arguably the best heavyweight in the UFC not named Jon Jones or Tom Aspinall.

It feels like people have forgotten just exactly how good Gane is, most likely because he is just 2-2 over his past four fights. However, those two losses came against Jones and Francis NGannou, two of the top three heavyweights on the planet.

Other than those two, Gane has beaten some big-name heavyweights, including Serghei Spivac, Tai Tuivasa, Derrick Lewis, Jairzinho Rozenstruik and tonight's opponent, Volkov. Gane and Volkov squared off in a five-round main event in 2021, where Gane coasted to a unanimous decision victory.

He was only a -155 favorite that time around, but we aren't as fortunate with those odds on Saturday. With that said, he is still the guy to back as he is the superior fighter in every aspect.

Gane vs. Volkov Pick, Prediction

I have no interest in laying -410 on Gane's moneyline, which is why I am targeting him to win by decision at a more-modest -135 price tag. This isn't a hot take by any means: if these two fighters went to decision in a five-round bout, then they are likely to do the same in a three-round fight.

Oddsmakers agree with this obvious sentiment, which is why this fight is priced as wide as -275 to go to decision. Like the first fight, this bout is likely to be "stand-and-bang", which bodes well for both Gane and the decision prop.

Gane has never been knocked out across 14 professional bouts, while Volkov has been knocked out just twice over 48 professional MMA fights. On the feet, as evidenced in the first fight, Gane throws in more volume, lands at a higher rate, and slips punches more successfully.

Volkov is now 36-years-old, and his inability to keep up with that striking discrepancy is likely to even be a bigger problem this time around.

Finally, for those curious, Gane was up 30-27 on two scorecards and 29-28 on the other after the first three rounds of the first matchup between these two heavyweights.

Tony's Pick: Cyril Gane by Decision (-135 at FanDuel)
