Why not Jim Miller? … Why not?!? How in the world is Chase Hooper to be a -1,000 favorite? OK maybe that's going too far. But still.
Jim Miller, I think, has a slightly better shot of winning this and defying the age curve when typically, I wouldn't be betting on the "old guy" in this scenario.
Miller has actually won three of four and six of eight heading into this contest. He alsoe excels on the ground — three of his most recent four wins have been by submission — where Hooper has won three his last three as part of a four fight overall streak.
Hooper is more talented and should take this but he isn't a world beater. He lost three times in five fights between 2020 and 2022 .The Bobby Green performance was worrisome for ,but we saw him bounce back to guillotine Damon Jackson at the Madison Square Garden in November. Plus, Green is a much better striker and a different stylistic competitor than Hooper.
This comes down to whether or not Miller could survive on the ground with Hooper, which I don't think is as out of the question as oddsmakers make it seem. That is, unless, Miller catches him on the feet, as we saw Steve Garcia stop Hooper over two years ago.
I don't think Miller can take home a decision, so I'm almost good with getting even more juice on a Miller KO/TKO or submission — but responsibly as a very light sprinkle. Anything +500 or better has my attention here.
The Pick: Jim Miller +630 (FanDuel)

No fighter in recent memory has shown more improvement than has Chase Hooper since the beginning of his UFC career. Hooper has filled out as a true lightweight, packing on muscle that now makes him one of the bigger competitors in the division on fight night.
The last time we saw Hooper he was dispatching of another UFC veteran from yesteryear in Clay Guida in round 1, but it was the fight before that against Viacheslav Borshchev that really got my attention.
That bout with Borshchev was supposed to be the striker versus grappler, but it was Hooper who pressed forward and put down his opponent with rather ease. Sure, he locked up the submission to get the finish, but that may not be quite as easy against Jim Miller.
Miller, now 41 years of age, has only been submitted once in the previous nine years, and that was by Charles Oliveira.
I do not believe Hooper will be outclassed on the feet, and is the more likely of the two to land a shot that knocks down his opponent. Regardless of if it is a knockdown or takedown that leads to Hooper gaining control on the mat, when the fight does get to the mat, a barrage of ground and pound is just as likely as a submission against somebody with grappling prowess of Miller.
Miller may be able to fend off the slick submissions of Hooper, but at his age, surviving an abundance of damage shouldn’t be expected.
Simply put, I absolutely love the value we are getting on Hooper here to win by knockout. Sean Zerillo and Billy Ward both also gave out this pick on their latest UFC Betting Preview Podcast:
The Pick: Chase Hooper by KO/TKO/DQ +650 (BetRivers)

One of the most frustrating things about watching MMA is the unwillingness of the officials to enforce the rules.
Never is that more apparent than when Michael Chandler steps into the cage. He put on an absolute masterclass of consequence free cheating in his last fight against Charles Oliveira, at various points getting away with fence grabs, eye pokes, glove grabbing, and double-digit shots to the back of the head.
That wasn't the first time for Chandler, who has been accused in the past of fighting dirty by former opponent — and UFC 314 desk analyst — Dustin Poirier.
Perhaps his luck runs out at UFC 314, though, with Pimblett already planning on discussing the issue with the referee prior to his bout against Chandler. I'm not sure how much "working the ref" will matter here, but it certainly can't hurt.
Which referee is assigned to this bout also matters a ton here, as we're far less likely to get a point deduction from Mike Beltran that Jason Herzog or Marc Goddard, for example.
These lines typically don't move at all, so feel free to wait for the official assignments before placing this bet. Otherwise, let's have some fun and root for justice to finally be served.
The Pick: Pimblett/Chandler Point to be Deducted +2000 (DraftKings)
