UFC 315 Props – MMA Prop Squad Predictions

John Lanfranca: Mike Malott vs. Charled Radtke

Contributor at The Action Network

Fighter walkouts: Approx. 9:45 p.m. ET

Canada’s own Mike Malott has a tall task in front of him Saturday night on the UFC 315 prelims in aggressive striker Charles Radtke. While Malott is the more well-rounded fighter, the stylistic matchup pits the tactical prowess of the favorite against the relentlessness of the underdog Radtke.

The forward pressure of Radtke to ensure he can create offense is the key to this specific prop. Radtke is the shorter man with a reach disadvantage, but he will not allow Malott to fight the style of fight the Canadian wants. Marching forward and forcing Malott to engage in exchanges he isn’t comfortable in is the challenge Radtke must present in order to pull the upset.

Charles Radtke has a 100% takedown defense thus far in his UFC career, and he still may be an ascending fighter in terms of his grappling skills. If he can keep the fight standing, the power advantage is on the side of the underdog and you can count on him to be more active than Malott’s previous opponent Trevin Giles.

Giles attempted just 16 significant strikes in Round 1 of their fight, allowing Malott to control the distance and pace of the bout. Malott attempted 130 strikes throughout the fight but 129 of those were deemed distance strikes. While the output was there statistically, so was the timid nature of a fighter coming off his first professional loss.

If and when Radtke gets inside, his left hook is dangerous for the favored Malott, and I am willing to take my chances he can land potential fight-ending strikes in those types of exchanges. Radtke’s KO/TKO prop is as low as +275 at some books, so make sure to shop around for the best line.

The Pick: Charles Radtke by KO/TKO +340 (FanDuel)

Billy Ward: Navajo Stirling vs. Ivan Erslan

Staff Writer at The Action Network

Fighter walkouts: Approx. 11:45 p.m. ET

Each week during "Contender Series season" I do a fairly deep dive into all of the prospects competing for their chance to join the UFC.

One of the my favorite prospects last year was City Kickboxing product Navajo Stirling, who I predicted to punch his ticket with a second or third round knockout.

The rangy counter striker did just that, and now has a similar matchup in front of him in his second UFC fight. Ivan Erslan's last nine wins all came in the first round, and he starts fast with both heavy strikes and grappling attempts.

If he's able to find any success in the grappling department I suspect it will come early, when Erslan is still fresh. I trust the team at City Kickboxing to have Stirling prepared to at least survive those exchanges, if not escape back to his feet.

Of course, every new round starts standing, where Stirling can use his seven inch reach edge to pick apart Erslan at distance. The combination of a larger cage and Erslan's likely fatigue make success for Stirling even more likely at range as the fight progresses.

Due to that, I'm going back to the same picks I made on Stirling on the Contender Series. That would be Stirling in either the second or third round, with the best odds via FanDuel.

I sold Sean Zerillo on that angle on our latest UFC Betting Preview:

The Pick: Stirling Round 2 +480, Round 3 +700 (FanDuel)
