College Baseball Predictions, Projections
The opening weekend of college baseball came hot out of the gate.
- Second-ranked Florida took a Friday loss to St. John's before two consecutive weather cancellations.
- North Carolina sent two freshman pitchers to the mound against Wagner, and both threw solid innings in a victory.
- Despite playing with a depleted pitching staff, Campbell took the series from Omaha sleeper UC Santa Barbara.
- Reigning national champion LSU failed to cover the run line in three of its four victories at home against VMI and Central Arkansas.
The focus in Week 2 shifts to Globe Life Field in Arlington, where Arkansas, Oregon State, Oklahoma State and Michigan will take the field before looking to make a deep run in June.
In other action, Folger Boaz and Olin Johnson will look to keep the freshman magic going for North Carolina against a seasoned East Carolina roster.
This weekly article will look at the biggest series of the weekend and present projections for potential pitching matchups. We'll take a look at a combination of each team's top three projected starters and their potential baseline spread and total.
For the first month of the season, projections will be prorated against numbers from the 2023 season. Once a starting pitcher racks up four starts and takes on a clearly defined role, all projected sides and totals will come from 2024 numbers.
Sides are based on a calculation of ERA, FIP and xFIP. The total is based on the same numbers, along with calculated base runs and park factors.
