College World Series Projections · Monday, June 26
Welcome to Collin Wilson’s daily notebook for the College World Series.
With our opening games in the books, projections will change as starting pitchers and bullpens are depleted. Because of those ever-changing variables, he will also have updated projections and stats when pitchers are confirmed here.
This article will update with new matchups every day, so bookmark and check back here daily for updated projections, along with any player or weather notables.
LSU vs. Florida
Projection: LSU's Paul Skenes (-267)* vs. Florida's Jac Caglianone · Total: 9.19
*If Skenes doesn't start, an LSU combination of Riley Cooper, Thatcher Hurd and Gavin Guidry would project at -105. If Skenes comes out of the bullpen, three innings apiece from Hurd, Skenes and Cooper would put LSU at -137 with a total of 9.6.
The difference in this best-of-three series comes now that the series is tied after two games.
If Florida meets the nation's best pitcher in Paul Skenes on the mound, the Tigers would enter as huge favorites. However, a Riley Cooper, Thatcher Hurd and Gavin Guidry setup would be priced around -105, so it makes sense that oddsmakers cut this line down the middle.
On three days of rest, Skenes could also be available out of the bullpen in a tight contest.
Wind is forecasted to blow sideways from left field to right field at 12 mph, aiding a total projection that's lower than it was in Game 1 and Game 2.
I took LSU to win the series at -105 before Game 1. With Skenes potentially getting the ball at some point, I'm going to ride that bet out.
