They say, "Everything is bigger in Texas."

This saying rang true for one lucky man from The Lone Star State, who won big when playing Ultimate Texas Hold 'em at the Rio.

A spokesperson with the Rio Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas announced that James Winstead experienced the thrill of a lifetime when he won a $203,000 straight flush progressive jackpot with a wager that rivals the price of a meal deal at McDonald's.

Winstead's remarkable royal flush was formed with his hole cards, the Jack and Queen of Hearts, and the community cards, the 10, King, and Ace of Hearts.

A royal flush is the highest-ranking hand possible in Texas Hold 'em, leading to his substantial payout.

The casino celebrated Winstead's win by sharing a picture of him holding the winning Jack and Queen of Hearts.

His $5 wager on the game turned into a $203,000 victory, which showcases the excitement and potential rewards poker can bring. Just like the randomly dealt royal flush that won a jackpot for another player at The Golden Nugget or the player who won over $1 million playing at an MGM casino.

Ultimate Texas Hold ’em Is Immensely Popular

Texas Hold 'em is renowned for its strategic depth and widespread appeal, characterized by players receiving two hole cards and sharing five community cards. The objective is to make the best five-card hand possible.

But Ultimate Texas Hold 'em is a popular casino table game variation of traditional Texas Hold 'em poker. It is designed to be played against the dealer rather than other players.

The goal is to make the best five-card poker hand using the player's two-hole cards and five community cards, much like in regular Texas Hold 'em.

How To Play Ulitmate Texas Hold 'em

When placing initial bets, players place an ante and a blind bet of equal amounts before receiving any cards. An optional trips bonus bet can also be made, which pays based on the poker value of the player's final hand.  Each player and the dealer receive two hole cards.

After seeing their hole cards, players can choose to check or make a play bet that is three or four times their ante. After the first three community cards (the "flop") are revealed, players can make a play bet of two times their ante if they haven't already bet. After all five community cards are revealed, players who haven't made a play bet yet must either make a play bet equal to their ante or fold and forfeit their ante and blind bets.

After all community cards are dealt, players reveal their hands. To qualify, the dealer must have at least a pair or better. If the dealer doesn't qualify, the player's ante bet is returned, and the play bet is paid according to the player's hand strength. If the dealer qualifies and the player's hand beats the dealer's, the play and blind bets pay according to a set pay table, with the ante bet paying even money.

Progressive Jackpots Add More Excitement

Many casinos offer a progressive jackpot bet that can be won with specific high-ranking hands, such as a straight flush or royal flush, adding an exciting bonus element to the game.

That progressive jackpot is what paid off for Winstead.

Ultimate Texas Hold 'em combines strategic decision-making with the luck of the draw, making it an engaging and exciting casino game for poker enthusiasts and newcomers.

It requires a slightly different strategy than video poker, but it is still fun — just ask James Winstead.
