Talk about making a mountain out of a molehill.
One lucky Atlantic City gambler cashed in big time, when they instantly turned their spare change into nearly $416,000.
According to a press release from the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Atlantic City, the lucky player, who’s asked not to be identified, dropped 15 quarters into a wide-area progressive Wheel of Fortune slot machine before hitting it big.
That person turned their $3.75 wager into $415,733.03. They sat down, placed their bet, hit “spin” and watched as the symbols flashed across the screen. Then a jackpot message appeared saying they had won.
It was that simple.
What is a Wide-Area Progressive Slot Machine?
Wide-area progressives are managed by the slot makers, not the casinos. It’s a jackpot sharing system between multiple participating jurisdictions and/or governments within and outside the State. For wide-area progressives, you are paid by the slot manufacturer.
The casinos handle the other two types of progressives (stand-alone progressives and linked progressives), and they are required to pay them out when won.
A standalone progressive jackpot increases only on one specific slot machine in the casino. It isn't connected to any other games or networks. Every time you play, the jackpot for that game goes up. When you finish your session, the jackpot amount remains the same until the next person starts playing.
A "linked progressive" is a setup where multiple gaming machines share the same jackpot prize. This jackpot can be a fixed amount or grow based on how much people bet.
Not The Biggest Slot Jackpot at Hard Rock AC in 2024
While winning over $400,000 on a Wheel of Fortune slot machine is thrilling, it's not the largest payout at Hard Rock Atlantic City, nor on a Wheel of Fortune machine this year.
In July, an out-of-state first-time guest transformed a $10 bet into nearly $1.6 million. The fortunate player sat down at one of the Wheel of Fortune slot machines at the Hard Rock and left a millionaire, with total winnings amounting to $1,593,457.
According to a casino spokesperson, the jackpot won is among the top-five slot machine jackpots won at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Atlantic City since its opening in June 2018.
Long Odds, Minimum Wager, Huge Win
Even though winning at slots has long odds, the thrill of playing and the chance to win big keep players coming back. They have been since the doors of Atlantic City’s first casino swung open in 1978.
When someone hits the jackpot, it's a moment of incredible luck.
Hard Rock’s newest jackpot winner can attest to that.
While retail casinos are nothing new to America's playground, New Jersey online casinos have been live since 2018. You can also check out the Hard Rock online casino, too.
