As part of her new role, Merk will participate in select in-person poker events and create content for BetMGM Poker’s social media channels. Her collaboration with BetMGM will also see her attending major poker tournaments at MGM Resorts International properties and contributing to the platform’s online poker education resources.

Who Is Abby Merk?

Abby Merk, a graduate of Wake Forest University, has successfully transitioned into a new career in poker. Her journey began during the pandemic when she frequently played poker with her family. Realizing the potential to earn money from the game, Merk dove into studying poker seriously.

Her hard work paid off. Merk's biggest tournament win so far has been $11,613 in a single day.

She started playing in the prestigious World Series of Poker (WSOP) in Las Vegas at age 21, the youngest age she's legally allowed. The WSOP's main event is an eight-day marathon with thousands of players, featuring a hefty $10,000 entry fee and a $10 million first-place prize. Merk won her way into the main event this year through a smaller tournament with just a $200 entry fee.

Although she faced a stronger hand early on and had to bow out, she is determined to return.

She told Wake Forest Magazine she has supported herself for over a year with her poker winnings.

Merk studied philosophy in college, which she says is useful for understanding people's thoughts and decision-making. She also minored in math, crediting her knowledge of probability for much of her success at the poker table.

She's also been developing her content creation skills along the way, winning the Rising Star in Content Creation award at the Global Poker Awards.

At just 24, Merk has made a significant impact in the poker world. Her captivating content and poker skills have earned her a devoted following across social media platforms. Her videos on YouTube and Instagram have attracted a rapidly growing audience, increasing from just 3,000 followers in January to over 100,000 today.

Merk Excited About New BetMGM Poker Venture

For Merk, the partnership is the realization of a long-held dream. "Throughout my time in the poker industry, it has always been my dream to partner with a brand that aligns with my values of honor, integrity, and respect while demonstrating a true love of the game," Merk shared. "I am so proud to announce that I have partnered with BetMGM as a poker ambassador for 2025! I look forward to growing the game and building an amazing future with them."

She's already started posting for BetMGM. She announced a story takeover earlier this week:

BetMGM's Chief Marketing Officer, Casey Hurbis, could not hide his enthusiasm about the partnership, saying, "Abby Merk’s winning personality and love of poker reflect the type of excitement we are building in the poker community.”

Merk’s involvement is expected to not only enhance BetMGM’s content strategy but also bring fresh insights to its community of poker players, both online and in person. With her at the helm, BetMGM Poker hopes to reach new heights by captivating poker enthusiasts worldwide.
