The energy is back at Jackpot Junction Casino Hotel.

After a cybersecurity incident forced a temporary shutdown, the Minnesota casino came back to life over the weekend. The buzz of activity returned, with eager gamblers filling the floor and the familiar sounds of spinning reels and bingo numbers once again echoing throughout the facility.

The casino's social media announcement on Friday expressed excitement and relief: “We’re BACK — and we’ve missed you!”

The message was clear: the casino was ready to welcome back its patrons. After weeks of dealing with technology issues that disrupted not only the casino operations but also impacted the Lower Sioux Indian Community, things are finally back on track.

Cyberattack Took Slot Machines Down

Problems first appeared last month when guests experienced glitches such as interrupted phone services and canceled bingo nights. These issues gradually escalated, leading to the casino's decision to temporarily go offline.

Despite some power outages, the bar, restaurants, and game tables at Jackpot Junction Casino Hotel have stayed open. The casino covers an area of 46,000 square feet and offers over 1,000 slot machines. However, thanks to swift recovery efforts, all attractions, including the hotel, dining avenues, and the gamer’s haven, are now fully operational.

Criminal Group Claims Responsibility for Casino Cyberattack

Paul Bischoff, a consumer privacy advocate at Comparitech, mentioned that a group called RansomHub allegedly gave the casino a month to pay a ransom, though the exact amount isn't known. It's unclear if personal data was stolen, if the casino paid the ransom, how much was demanded, or how the group hacked into the casino's system.

RansomHub claims it has been responsible for 129 confirmed ransomware attacks and another 637 attacks that haven't been verified by the affected organizations.

Casinos deal with a lot of sensitive information, like customer financial transactions, personal details, and regulatory records, which makes them particularly appealing targets for ransomware attacks.

Jackpot Junction Thanks Customers for Their Patience

The Jackpot Junction's Facebook post was as much a "thank you" as it was an announcement about the casino's reopening.

Its message to its patrons was heartfelt: “Thank you for being a part of our Jackpot family!” The reopening marks not just a return to business as usual, but a celebration of resilience and community. As familiar faces fill the gaming floor once again, Jackpot Junction Casino looks forward to creating more memorable moments with each and every visitor.
