A man from Lexington, Kentucky said he plans to pay off his house after winning a six-figure Kentucky Lottery jackpot.
The man, who goes by Steven, found his fortune about a month ago and kept it a secret until he collected his winnings. The Kentucky Lottery put out a press release this week.
“I was playing for the jackpot,” Steven told lottery officials. “I wasn’t really paying that much attention and next thing you know, it hit!”
Online Game Pays Big Jackpot
Steven was playing the Kentucky Lottery’s High Roller Jackpot instant play game online when he struck it rich.
After placing their wager, players uncover a cluster of three or more symbols to win a prize. Players can multiply their wins by uncovering the correct symbols, and the game features a progressive jackpot, currently estimated at $132,142.
For a $5 wager, the odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 2 million. In Steven’s case, he won the jackpot available at the time — $261,303.10. You can see what the screen looked like below.
Fortunately for Steven, you don't have to be a high roller to win the High Roller Jackpot.
Friend Could Not Believe Steven’s Luck
His reaction to the jackpot win was understandable. “Holy crap, that just happened,” Steven said.
After realizing he had won, Steven shared a screenshot with a friend, who was as shocked as Steven.
“I was driving, and I zoomed in and I almost wrecked. I was like no way you just did that!,” the anonymous friend told Kentucky Lottery officials.
After taxes, Steven took home a check for $188,138.24.
“It still hasn’t sunk in,” Steven said.
Jackpot To Pay Off House And Buy Dinner
When asked what Steven had planned for his winnings, he told officials the first thing he will do is pay off his house. “Oh, and take his friend to a fancy dinner,” his friend added, laughing.
