Excitement doubled for the Kentucky Lottery as two players hit massive progressive jackpots on the same game—on back-to-back days.
First up was a Louisville man who didn't waste much time taming the Elephant King game. Opting to remain anonymous, he struck it rich with a win of over $254,000.
Nap Time Becomes Jackpot Time
The lucky winner recounted how the exciting event unfolded. "I had just put my grandson down for a nap and decided to play (Kentucky Lottery) online games," he said. "I played a few different games and didn’t get anywhere, so I saw the Elephant King and thought I would try it."
Just two plays later, the game revealed he had won one of the progressive jackpots. "I couldn’t believe it," he shared, laughing, as he explained he didn't want to wake his sleeping grandson and had no one else at home to share the news with.

When his wife returned, she struggled to believe the win, even after an email from the Kentucky Lottery confirmed their good fortune. It wasn't until the couple arrived at Kentucky Lottery headquarters that reality set in.
After taxes, the family will take home more than $183,000. The man intends to share some of the winnings with his children and save the rest.
A Second Elephant King Jackpot the Following Day
Just a day after the Louisville man's win, an Elephant King jackpot struck again. This time, a woman from Carrollton won more than $314,000.
She wagered just $2 when a message popped up on her screen announcing her win. Like the Louisville man, she remained skeptical even after receiving confirmation via email from the Kentucky Lottery.

However, her disbelief turned into joy when she visited the lottery headquarters, where she was handed a check for over $226,300 post-taxes. The timing couldn't have been better for the woman, who mentioned her daughter is expecting her first grandchild.
Both wins are reminiscent of last month, when a simple wager on the Elephant King slot turned into a life-changing event for another Kentucky Lottery player who hit the progressive jackpot.
What Is Elephant King?
Elephant King is a popular Instant Play game offered by the Kentucky Lottery. The game includes three progressive jackpots that increase with each purchase.
The object of Elephant King is to collect three or more matching, adjacent symbols (“winning clusters”) to win a prize, or land an Elephant Prize Disk Symbol in a corresponding column of the Prize Disk Row to win instant prizes, a Free Turn Bonus, or win the corresponding Mini, Major, or Mega progressive jackpot amounts.
The Mega jackpot starts at $250,000, while the Major and Mini jackpots begin at $5,000 and $500, respectively. The current estimated jackpot sits at $294,000.
What Is a Progressive Jackpot?
According to Vegas Insider, progressive jackpots are big prizes you can win in games like slots, lotteries, and even table games like blackjack and roulette. When you bet on these games, a small portion of your wager goes into the progressive jackpot, which keeps growing. The casino or lottery starts the jackpot with some initial money.

Casinos might team up with game makers to set up systems, known as random number generators (RNGs), which decide the odds of hitting one of these big jackpots.
To win a progressive jackpot, you might have to bet the maximum amount or get into a special bonus round. Sometimes, you might win if a prize is randomly awarded or if you land on special symbols in a specific spot on the game.
