Trying to find the loose slot machines isn’t always easy.

Everybody has their own theories. One of them is usually trying a machine that hasn’t hit in a while.

Well, a Connecticut woman’s recent experience goes against that theory.

The woman, only identified as Terri M., struck it rich at Mohegan Sun, winning big on a newly introduced slot machine.

Terri is from Glastonbury and hit the "Super Jackpot" on the Huff N’ Even More Puff slot machine for almost $252,000.

Her picture, along with her winning machine and a giant check, was featured on the casino’s X (formerly Twitter) feed.

When it was all said and done, her lucky $10 spin won her a jackpot of $251,964.37.

This slot machine has only been at the casino for five months. It was installed in June and is one of 20 available in the "Casino of the Sky" at Mohegan Sun.

Everybody Has Theories About "Loose Slot Machines"

The phrase "loose slot machines" has been used for years. The term "loose" refers to machines more likely to pay out.

There are many tips and tricks players use to find that machine, including:

  • Theory 1: Always play the maximum number of coins. For instance, if you're using a slot machine with a minimum bet of 25 cents and a maximum of one dollar, wager the whole dollar to optimize your chances of winning.
  • Theory 2: Test the payout percentage. This is the percentage of all wagered money returned to players over time. A machine with a payout percentage of 90% theoretically returns $90 for every $100 wagered over the long term.
  • Theory 3: Play multiple machines at the same time. This strategy is based on the belief that slot machines with higher payout rates are often placed adjacent to machines with lower payout rates, or 'tight' machines."

Some think casinos put 'loose' slot machines in busy (high-traffic) areas to get more people to play. But keep in mind, this is just a guess. If a machine isn't giving you wins, don't keep playing it because it's in a lucky spot.

People pick the machines they do for several reasons, but the theory they use to find their “lucky” machine is just that — a theory.

Slot Machines Use Random Number Generators

Many people mistakenly believe that casinos manipulate their slot machines so players can't win every time. Modern slot machines use random number generators (RNGs) that generate new random outcomes every millisecond.

Many licensing agencies set rules requiring casinos to pay back a certain amount of money to players, which means casinos can't keep everything. To increase your chances of winning at slot machines, whether at a casino or online, choose games with a high Return-to-Player (RTP) percentage, indicating how much money the game returns to players over time.

The Random Number Generator (RNG) in these games ensures that the results are fair and trustworthy, providing a reliable gaming experience.

Mohegan Sun is just one of the places you can play slot machines in person or online. Teri M. may have even used her theory to find the machine she hit on.
