Sports betting industry watchdog U.S. Integrity, which partners with the American Athletic Conference, noted the unusual activity and alerted the conference, according to Pat Forde, who broke the story for Sports Illustrated. Forde added that this isn't the first time that Temple games have been monitored for suspicious activity. U.S. Integrity's CEO, Matt Holt, told Sports Handle that the game “might be looked into deeper” though no specifics on why the game was flagged were given.
One reason for the extra attention on Thursday's game is the sudden line movement ahead off the matchup. Temple is tied for the worst record in the AAC and UAB is tied for fourth heading into conference tournament week.
At multiple books, the spread for the game moved from UAB -2.5 to UAB -7.5 within the span of an hour in the early afternoon, according to Action Network's line movement data. UAB defeated Temple in a 100-72 blowout, the worst loss of the season for the Owls.
