2021 NFL Draft Odds
No. 3 Pick | Odds |
---|---|
Trey Lance | -200 |
Mac Jones | +160 |
Justin Fields | +850 |
As recently as two weeks ago, Alabama's Mac Jones and Ohio State's Justin Fields were co-favorites to be selected No. 3 overall in the 2021 NFL draft by the San Francisco 49ers. Fast forward to draft day, and North Dakota State's Trey Lance is making a late comeback.
Lance's odds to be the No. 3 pick were steamed early Thursday afternoon after rumors leaked that Jones was not the quarterback the San Francisco 49ers are targeting, moving Lance from the +300 range (25% implied probability) late Wednesday all the way to as high as -200 (66.7%) at FanDuel as of 3:30 p.m. ET on Thursday.
The Jones/Fields/Lance saga first gained traction after the 49ers traded up the third overall pick, then got interesting after each of their respective Pro Days.
Fields' stock increased after a strong throwing session while Jones’ and Lance’s fell after their lackluster performances, but Fields’ odds eventually began to plummet after his epilepsy diagnosis was revealed and following reports that the 49ers’ decision would come down to Jones or Lance.
The worst Jones' odds to be drafted third on Wednesday night — aka draft eve — were -200 (66.7%) at BetMGM. Reports on Thursday, however, have indicated that the previous rumors were false and swung the market in Lance’s direction in less than 24 hours.
